This One Strikes Home

George Alagiah talks about his cancer.

However, he added that his condition is not at a “chronic” or “terminal” stage.

Alagiah was first diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2014, and announced in 2017 that the disease had returned. It has now spread to his lungs, liver and lymph nodes, he said.

Three years ago, the late Mrs L was in exactly the same situation. At the time, she was given two to three years with treatment or six months without. The Chemo destroyed her body and she was gone in nine months, leaving a devastating hole in my life that persists today. George is already on chemo, but as it’s now well into stage four, I give him until early in the New Year.

  1. George Alagiah always seemed to be one of the genuine, impartial nwsreaders and reporters.
When my wife died several years ago, I had a long talk with an old friend who lost his wife some years earlier. I asked him when does the hurting stop? He replied that it never does. You just learn to live with it. For some, time is said to be a healing process. Like you, it just makes me miss her more, so I know how you feel.. Do take care..

  2. I was rather brave of him to announce such a personal matter publicly. I sympathise for your loss and his family. From experience, I can say that although the pain never really goes, neither does the Love.
