The Final Bell

So Guido tells us that Steve Bell has been given the order of the boot by the Grauniad.

Not before time, frankly. A less talented cartoonist it would be hard to imagine, although the Grauniad’s First Dog on the Moon gives him a run for his money when it comes to puerile politics combined with an inability to demonstrate any artistic capability.

For me the nadir of Bell’s vile output was when he decided to attack the people of Wootton Bassett. It’s one thing to go after politicians, but he crossed a line that day when he went after ordinary, decent people who did no more than honour the dead as they passed by. Steve Bell confirmed then that he is a nasty piece of work.

It would seem that the antisemitism that has characterised the far left finally caught up with him, although he protested loudly on the matter – too much, methinks.

However, a cartoon depicting Benjamin Netanyahu as a puppet master with Trump and Johnson on his hands is fairly typical of the antisemitic trope that he is claiming doesn’t apply. I’m not surprised that it was spiked. Usually antisemites try to claim that such depictions are anti-Israel and not antisemitic, but they all say that, don’t they?

Lacking either the talent, intelligence or subtle wit of contemporaries such as Matt in the Telegraph, who manages to poke fun without being unpleasant, Bell has always come across as petulant, ill-mannered, childish and nasty. According to his bio he once taught. By God, if I attended his class and came out drawing childish daubs like that, I’d want my money back.

Perhaps he will be stacking shelves now. That would be a more fitting occupation for his talents. Either way, good riddance to a thoroughly excrescent individual.

  1. Been over to Guido’s to read the story. I must now disable my ad blocker to view the site. No thanks.

    • You give up too easily. I just lied. I clicked on the link and selected my ad blocker from the list. It then told me how to white list the site and then to click continue. I clicked continue without whitelisting and I was in

  2. For some reason my goggle news feed always punts Bells cartoons at me, dunno why since I never click on them.

  3. OT sorry but you might be interested that apparently the RAF has removed the tribute to Guy Gibson’s dog that was killed before the Dambusters raid and who was memorialised by providing the code word for breaching the first dam. That word that I am frightened to use even on this website for fear of being labelled racist. You know, that word that black rap singers and other lack celebrities can use with impunity.

  4. Sorry to be OT but I thought that you would like this. I know that you are a keen motorcyclist but I would assume that you also have a car and that it would be something rather practical. But I have been reliably informed that:

“The New Ford Bronco Is An Obscene Monument to Climate Denialism.”

Doesn’t that just make you want to go straight out and buy one?

    • Indeed. If I hadn’t already placed an order on a new Renault Megane RS sport. 280Bhp of climate denialism…

      • Ha ha, well done. I have a Ssangyong Korando. It is big and is a two litre intercooled turbo diesel but now I’m thinking that it isn’t obscene enough.

          • One of my pals had one and I used to take it for a spin regularly. It was just too big for me to have, I’m a short bottom but a great bike as many were at that time. Never forget the fun I had on that Suzuki Turbo and the XS1100.

    • Nah. Just go full on Harry ‘n’ Meghan. Cadillac Escalade. A modest little run-around.

  5. I knew a guy who had a Honda CBX1OOO, he let me take it for a spin. Obviously I couldn’t really assess it on a brief ride around the block but it was impressive.

Having looked up the spec on the Bronco, it appears that, for the US, it has a fairly modest engine, 2.7 litre I think. I was expecting a 7 litre V8 or something like that.

    • It was a great tourer, took around Europe twice, main problem was always how far was the nearest petrol station especially in just post-Franco Spain.

  6. I think that the Beeb will hire him.
They never found a worthy replacement for Tony Hart and that Aussie that we don’t mention any more.
With his empathy with the yoof he is ideal.
I can just see the young contributing artist’s pictures scrolling across the screen to the dulcet tones of some rapper.
