Lies, Damned Lies

And statistics.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock today ordered Public Health England to review the way it counts deaths because of a ‘statistical flaw’ that means officials are ‘over-exaggerating’ the daily toll.

Duh!

PHE counts people as victims if they die of any cause any time after testing positive for Covid-19 – even if they were hit by a bus months after beating the life-threatening infection, top academics revealed last night.

The method is likely why the daily fatality tolls are not dropping quickly in England because survivors never truly recover from the disease as their deaths are blamed on the coronavirus – regardless of their real cause.

And you didn’t see this coming? They’ve been doing it for years with smoking and drinking. It’s their standard ploy. Nothing new here.

Close PHE (and all the other quangos, fake charities and troughers). Close it and burn it to the ground, salt the earth where it stood.

It’s the only way. In the meantime, the adults in the room should be returning to normal.

  1. Also from the article:

“Dr Loke said: ‘By this PHE definition, no-one with Covid in England is allowed to ever recover from their illness.”

Well, yes, and this is presumably why they stopped publishing “recovery” figures unlike other nations because after a while with an open ended data set that doesn’t record “recovery” they simply haven’t got a fucking clue.

    • It puzzled me months ago, back in March, that comparing with other countries, the UK stats for recovered seemed to be stuck at some initial low figure; now I know why.

    • I thought (for months!) it was very weird that in the worldometer “by country” chart, in the “recovered” column for the UK, it simply says “n/a”. It never occurred to to me to write and ask, or make a fuss. (Generally prefer cock-up to conspiracy. But this is so negligent and complacently irresponsibly unthinking the difference is in nanometers.)

  2. The new cases graph that I have been keeping an eye on has suddenly stopped being updated, the last score was 530 on the 14th. I wonder if there is a connection?

    • This has been updated now. The daily numbers have been hovering around five or six hundred, gradually coming down from around twelve hundred five weeks ago. There was an odd spike up to 1,240 on the 15th but the numbers either side of it are 530 and 538.

      • The odd spike is apparently down to Wales finding some figures down the back of the sofa

        • It looks suspiciously like two day’s worth actually, 620 would be pretty much normal looking at the figures on either side of it.

  3. As you said, its why the mortality figures for drinking and smoking seem so far out of line compared to instinctive guesses.
Unfortunately we now have a population unable to assess relative risk because OURNHS/PHE/ASH/Drinkaware and the rest of the caravan of fools have spent years making up scary numbers, with the BBC as their willing Daily North Korea.

  4. This first aired 08.20 Friday BBC R4 Today, a couple of hours after Toby outlined it in depth @ lockdown Sceptics, the been trotting Spiegelhalter to fein surprise, like they didn’t all know.
