Jeremy Corbyn‘s brother Piers has been handed the first £10,000 fine in London for an illegal gathering after he organised a march claiming coronavirus is a hoax.
I do not agree with him that it is a hoax, for there is enough evidence of its existence. I do, however agree that the reaction has been hysterical and unnecessary.
If you had told me when I was growing up and watching this kind of behaviour happening to protesters in oppressive regimes that it could happen here, I wouldn’t have believed you.
Meanwhile, I presume that the thugs who were rampaging across our cities a few weeks ago tearing down statues and engaging in acts of violence and vandalism will receive the same treatment?

Fair comment. I was making the naive assumption that these people have a shred of integrity. Silly really, because the evidence doesn’t suggest it.
Well everybody was on board with BLM (well not me), so there was no obvious “covidiocy” to be seen at the mostly peaceful, socially distanced and masked, fiery, stabby shooty demonstrations.
Same with BBC, they no longer try to hide their Left bias as no consequence – no fines and the tax money keeps rolling in
Well, I was there, and though I didn’t hear Piers Corbyn speak (and the PA was truly shocking at the best of times), from from the placards I observed to the conversations I had with fellow attendees, no-one was suggesting it was a hoax. Rather, they were protesting (a) the government’s mishandling of the country’s response (b) the media’s blatant mis- and disinformation around the virus and (c) the creeping infringement of civil liberties that is resulting. And I have the photographic evidence to support my interpretation.
Indeed, there were a few ‘5G causes Covid’ types there, but (a) few (especially on the left) would now speak ill of the Fifties / Sixites CND rallies or Eighties anti-apartheid demos there because of the similarly whacky fringe attendees who were also present at the time (‘Anti Stalin propaganda is a lie’ or ‘End apartheid in the U.K.!) and (b) this is England, where we have always cherished our eccentrics and highlighted their freedom to voice opinions as a positive sign of the liberty of our way of life.

They will always try to demonise these things. The majority are likely to be reasonable lockdown sceptics who, like those of us here, can see the contradictions and the hysterical overreaction for what it is.

Unfortunately the Covid demonstration was marred by loony bandwagon-jumpers: Icke, 5G, climate, etc., which diluted what should have been a clear message to government about the insanity of their present, panicked, irrational, unscientific & economically-disastrous repression.
Yes, it gives the enemy an opportunity to write us off as loonies.

You do understand that the deadline for Thermaggeddon was 2020 at the latest according to the climate alarmist loons. They have been making hysterical doomsday predictions for 30 years now and not one of them has come to pass, not one. I respectfully suggest that you take a look out of your window and make an honest assessment about how much the world has been devastated by climate change.

Given that it has spread worldwide, I suggest that it meets the definition of a pandemic. However it never justified the reaction.

I’m not disputing any of this. However, that definition of pandemic – as in spreading across continents and countries is true. It has. It’s just not a very virulent one and certainly isn’t worth the level of panic, hysteria and over reaction that has resulted. The evidence emerging suggests that we already have a level of immunity given that only around 20% of those exposed actually go on to develop symptoms.
I agree with Bill below, its moved beyond that now. You can tell this by the language in use. They no longer talk about deaths but cases. We get cases of flu every year but we aren’t expected to wear face nappies or shut down because of it. The real pandemic here was the fear factor ramped up to high volume by the media and governments across the world.

SARS/COV-2 is no longer a pandemic, it is now endemic in the population. Endemic means that the worst is past and the bug is everywhere. You can’t avoid it. Those who are susceptible have succumbed. The rest are effectively immune. Panic over.
The only pandemic now is fear.
