There is no Cancel Culture

Oh, yes there is

Social media posts by Gina Carano, who plays Cara Dune on The Mandalorian, have been called “abhorrent and unacceptable” by Lucasfilm.

In a statement, a spokesperson said: “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future.”

What did Carano say that was so abhorrent?

Well, it seems that she expressed some mildly uncontroversial views that exposed her as “right wing” and being right wing is no longer allowed.

I am of the view that celebrities really shouldn’t espouse their political opinions in public as this has the effect of alienating half your fan base – likewise businesses, authors, singers and so on. Take the money, smile nicely and keep shtum.

However, it has now come to the point where merely expressing a conservative viewpoint is so abhorrent that the speaker must be cancelled. No longer are we allowed to have a plurality of opinion, no longer can we tolerate those who have a different worldview. We are back to the medieval Catholic church burning heretics, and the witchsmeller persuivants.

What was it that was so awful, and apparently anti-Semitic?

In the post, the former MMA fighter compared “hating someone for their political views” in the US to the treatment of Jewish people during the Holocaust in Nazi Germany.

Okay, so what did she actually say here? Given that Nazi comparisons tend to be somewhat clichéd.

Carano fell under heavy criticism after she posted on Instagram Stories that ‘Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…. even by children.’

The post continued: ‘Because history is edited, most people today don´t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views?’

In what way was that anti-Semitic? It isn’t. Indeed, it is nothing more than an accurate allegory using historical precedent to reflect on behaviour we are seeing today. And given the attacks on her, a pretty prescient one. Of course, because she is a conservative and supports Trump, the TDS kicks in and any excuse is used to label her as a witch who needs to be cancelled – as an aside, anyone who uses the word “unacceptable” unironically when describing someone else’s comments can safely be ignored as a pompous self-righteous prick. It’s one of those trigger words that identifies the person using it as a censorious, bigoted, dogmatic arse. Here’s looking at you, Lucasfilm.

She has dared to speak out against the prevailing orthodoxy and is therefore wrong and needs to be cancelled. Even though the response to her words demonstrate that she is right and her detractors are holding up a mirror to themselves.

That lack of self-awareness among her detractors is fairly standard stuff these days. It is they who are the evil ones, not her. Also, they accuse her of encouraging authoritarianism – because as any fule no, Trump = fascism – where any analysis of her comments shows the opposite. She talks of having conversations with your political opponents. She comes across as reasonable, logical and rational. Her opinions are far from extreme and if you think what she said is abhorrent, I suggest you dig out a dictionary and look the word up before using long words you don’t understand.

Carano is not abhorrent and nor are her views, Disney is, though, and so are the SJW Wokites who have hounded her for her fairly mild opinions and for trying to silence any voice that dares to contradict their cultish belief system. Gina Carano is merely the latest heretic to be sacrificed in the name of the woke orthodoxy. There will be more before we finally rid ourselves of this disease.

In some, she mocked mask wearing during the pandemic and promoted claims of voter fraud during the 2020 presidential election.

I like her already…

  1. I don’t know why Carpenter and Gellar are trying the old ‘misogynist’ claims to skewer Joss Whedon, when claiming he is right wing gets a quicker response!

  2. The Twitter morons were trying to get her booted out for months. I too agree this is not antisemitic nor is it wrong as that altruistic snow clearing story has the drive owner who cannot thank her neighbours because they are Trump supporters. She is a columnist on the New your Times.

  3. I can’t see anything antisemitc in Ms Carano’s statement. In fact it’s correct. The Nazis would never have got away with what they did if the people had not been amply propagandised to go along with it. There’s nothing wrong with Ms Carano’s comment from the point of view this Red Sea Pedestrian. If never again is to actually mean something then it shouldn’t just apply to race or religion but also political viewpoint as well. This is because a Nazi style ideology could just as well as blamed the bicyclists as the Jews for their nation’s ills.

  4. Drawing quite reasonable comparisons and warnings that what is showing its ugly head today has happened before seems entirely the right thing to do.

What’s that saying about telling the truth in times of universal deceit? perfect example here.

Arn’t the snowflakes getting their panties twisted rather too regularly and over increasingly small events these days, overegging and pudding springs to mind, one could be forgiven for thinking its all a directed smoke screen designed to keep the proles concentrating on worthless tittle tattle whilst the real movers go about destroying our world in the background.

  5. Orwell noticed that everything that the left say is not only not true but in fact the precise opposite of the truth. How can anyone claim that pointing out the kind of behavior that led to the holocaust is anti semitic? Oh that’s right, it’s the opposite of anti semitism which in lefty opposite world means, well you work it out.

  6. ‘Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…. even by children.’

Very true and Jews had to wear Yellow Stars to show public who to attack

Now it’s those not wearing a useless and infectious mask who can be attacked by public with Gov’t & police support

Cancel Culture: Lawrence Fox a prominent example

Cancelled: Kenny Everett and Jim Davidson were two of the early ones
