Reaping and Sowing

That old canard about reaping what you sow springs to mind here.

A hospital could lose 1,000 staff members if they do not get vaccinated against Covid, its chief executive has warned.

Dr Clive Kay, head of King’s College Hospital (KCH), accepted he was “worried” as around 10 per cent of approximately 14,000 workers at the hospital are yet to receive a first dose.

He said his job was to “encourage staff to get vaccinated” after Sajid Javid was questioned by Steve James, a consultant anaesthetist on the ICU ward, during a visit to the hospital.

The consultant told the Health Secretary he disagreed with the government’s decision to make vaccinations mandatory for NHS hospital workers, saying the science was not strong enough to support the move.

I did check my sympathy meter.

Yup, none. This is entirely self inflicted and for no good reason. The whole farrago is now going to come back to bite policy makers on the bum. Me? I say bring it on. It’s their mess, let them clean it up.

  1. I read that some US healthcare providers have now begged staff who were let go to come back – at least until the panic has subsided. One might hope they will say “Go Away” – or words to that effect…

    • I think their plan is to re-employ sacked staff under a changed contract of employment that specifies they must be jabbed. Far better for those staff who don’t want the jab to let themselves be sacked, find alternative employment and at the same time take the unlawful dismissal to court as its breach of contract.

  2. Having recently retired from a regular day job, trying to do the calculations needed for the decision to leave work is still a fresh memory. The numbers are complex and it is difficult to know if you are making the right decision. I had been relatively happy in my job for a long time but management changes led to things happening that were really pissing me off. It’s hard to say whether I would have stayed longer had things not turned sour, I always planned to retire as soon as I could afford to. How many of the people affected by this issue are in their mid fifties or older? People who are wondering whether they can afford to retire and saying screw it why not? Another issue is that of unfair dismissal. The rule that everyone must have an experimental vaccine isn’t going to be in anyone’s employment contract is it?

    • The problem being, the inflation and price rises to come to dig us out of this hole. Compounded by the expected rise in energy costs as a result of the Blond Buffoon’s Green idiocy.

Not as safe a bet as it was in 2029, this retirement lark…

Really? I thought his job was running a hospital, not interfering in the medical matters of his staff.
    Silly me…

      • I have even less sympathy than you. Just waiting now for the unlawful dismissal claims to come rolling in. Wouldn’t put any faith in the unions though so am wondering how many of these sacked staff know about it.

  4. No sympathy here either, there should be consequences for these petty dictators and those who do their bidding.
Did us a power of good seeing that little squirt Javid unsettled after being told he was wrong at the hospital photo op when Javid had a nervous bunch of young nurses lined up to bully into agreeing, wish my Mrs had been one of them, he wouldn’t have forgotten that encounter in a hurry.

  5. It will be interesting to see how the different ranks, religions, minorities and disabilities are treated.
Will a PoC or BAME consultant trump a newly pregnant deaf radiologist.
Will the rule apply to the lawyers that they will have to hire.
No situation is so disastrous that some eedjit can still make it worse.
This should be fun. In a sick fashion.
