Quelle Horreur

So Jimmy Carr told an off colour joke.

Comedian Jimmy Carr has sparked outrage for a routine about the Holocaust in his latest Netflix stand-up special.

Carr has been described as “truly disturbing” for making light of the murders of hundreds of thousands of people from Europe’s traveller communities during World War Two.

The Holocaust Memorial Day Trust said it was “absolutely appalled”.

I’ve seen the joke. Like all of Carr’s output, it simply isn’t funny. He’s one of those comedians who uses the shock effect to get a laugh without using genuine humour. A good joke is clever, it has a punchline that you don’t necessarily see coming, or if you do, it still cracks you up. Carr is not talented enough to do this.

But am I horrified? No. I don’t like him, so don’t watch him. I sought this one out because I wanted to see what the fuss was about. It was tasteless, but that’s it. I’m not appalled, because Carr isn’t worth the effort of getting appalled about. I’m not sure who the bigger twats are here – Carr or his detractors who are horrified and appalled by a joke.

Ms Dorries suggested the government could legislate to stop comedy people find offensive being shown on streaming platforms.

Fucking hell. That’s the end of comedy, then. Idiot.

      • I’m no great fan of Jimmy Carr’s comedy but I am absolutely horrified by Nadine Dorries comment. She’s obviously no friend of freedom of speech or opinion. Comedy is extremely subjective. What offends me is for someone else something completely inoffensive. As an aside I can see the new Online Safety rules being abused severely by those who ‘perceive’ that something is offensive and have the capacity to be just as abused by some in order to censor or silence critics as the ‘hate speech’ laws are.

  1. Not wishing to be contrary but I find Jimmy Carr very funny.
Gypsies are not a race in my opinion, they are a lifestyle choice which you can leave if you decide too.
Perhaps the gypsies will go on strike in protest-pay their taxes, pick up their litter and stop robbing pensioners until Jimmy apologises.

  2. Nadine Dorries is a mistake. How do we get such people in position of power is far more scary than whatever any comedian says.

  3. Jimmy Carr, like Frankie Boyle and Jo Brand, are unfunny obnoxious cnuts. They are so bad I don’t watch anything they’re in.

Not a fan of Russel Brand, but he has been talking sense on a lot last two years. Wish he’d be more concise and to the point instead of waffling to avoid offending woke.
