Mao Would Have Been Proud

A confession of past crimes straight out of the cultural revolution.

The co-creator of 1990s US sitcom Friends has admitted it was “a mistake” not to use the appropriate pronoun for Chandler’s transgender parent.

Oh, good grief. It was over twenty years ago. The past is a foreign country. The trans cult with its vile narcissism didn’t exist then. The past was a little nicer, too, in that case.

“Pronouns were not yet something that I understood. So we didn’t refer to that character as she. That was a mistake.”

Pronouns are a part of the English language. I presume the scriptwriters knew how to use them. Oh, you didn’t mean that, did you? You meant that this programme, which was of its time is now non PC and you are apologising for something that wasn’t a problem then and for the vast majority of people across the globe isn’t a problem now.

In a 2018 interview, Turner said she would not take on the role if she was offered it again, and would leave it to a trans woman.

Yeah, because gays can’t play straights, police officers must be played by real police officers, pirates by real pirates and kings must always be played by real kings and so on… Idiot. It’s acting, playing a part. Playing someone who isn’t you. Jeebus.

Kauffman, who is also the creator of the Netflix series Grace and Frankie, said she would do things differently if she was working on Friends now.

Well, yes. Now you would appease the insane mob, making the programme unwatchable for ordinary people.

Talking about a recent incident on the set of a TV show, she told the BBC she “fired a guy on the spot for making a joke about a trans cameraperson”, adding: “That just can’t happen.”

See what I mean? Would she do this if a straight white man was the butt of a joke at work? Did the cameraman have a problem with it? If not, then there isn’t a problem. Joking at work happens all the time. The most that should have happened if it was a problem would have been a quiet word.

She went on to say Friends also “did not have enough representation of black people” and that she was “clearly part of systemic racism in our business”.

Yawn. It was of its time. There is no such thing as institutional racism. I write books. Only one of them has black characters in it because it is set in the Caribbean. The rest don’t have black characters and I don’t give a damn. And, no I wouldn’t do things differently because diversity. Fuck diversity. I was not going to make medieval or Georgian England full of black people because it wasn’t.

“I was unaware of that, which makes me feel stupid,” she said, adding: “That was a very valid, extremely difficult criticism which still… I get emotional about.

In pandering to the mob, you are stupid, yes. Never appease bullies. Never. They only come back for more once they have smelled blood.

“Admitting and accepting guilt is not easy,” she told the Los Angeles Times last week. “It’s painful looking at yourself in the mirror. I’m embarrassed that I didn’t know better 25 years ago.”

Yes, Chairman Mao would be so proud. There was no guilt. It is imagined. If there are narcissistic cretins who are now taking offence, the problem is them, not a programme that aired twenty years ago. You didn’t know better [sic] because it was twenty years ago and this insane cult didn’t exist then. That said, I would do exactly the same today and ignore them. Let them have their hissy fits. Let them scream and stamp their feet. The sooner everyone does this, the sooner we can return to a saner place.

  1. Well said LR, nothing to add about stupid bitch

On Mao, he’s more proud of SNPland where Stur Ge On is looking to mandate same gender neutral uniform in every school, inc private

Practically all modern capitalist corporations are forever boasting to us about their “values”. Curiously, though, these values are always woke values. Never conservative values. Imagine a bank promoting its support for tighter controls on immigration, or a supermarket declaring that life begins at conception.

  2. “Perhaps they should be equipped with a diesel generator in boot.”

They could set up diesel powered charging points like the ones that they had at Glastonbury.

  3. It’s not everyones cup of tea, but I love Friends and have watched all ten seasons multiple times.

Chandlers dad was not transgender. He was gay. The character was played by a woman, but I always just thought that was a bit of panto-esque fun. He was never referred to as transgender in the show, he was always just a gay man who dressed as a woman and headlined a gay burlesque show.

(Dad: Aren’t you a bit old to be wearing that dress?
Mum: Don’t you have too much penis, to be wearing that dress?)

And as for black people, there were enough. For six white friends who lived New York, they interacted with just the right amount of black people that you would expect. The fact that the show was not 60 or 70% black, was a good thing, not a bad one. It made it more realistic

I suspect Kauffman may be drifting from fame to obscurity and is trying desperately to be relevant in the modern day

Now lets hear the apology for the number of white people on The Cosby Show and the Fresh Prince of Bell Air

  4. I’m looking forward to the next biblical epic film of the life of Christ. Finding a real carpenter to play Joseph shouldn’t be too much of a problem, but where are they going to find a real God to play Jesus? And a virgin mother to play Mary might be a tough one.

  5. One thing I’m really sick and tired of is all these warnings with old films and TV series along the lines of “contains attitudes and language of the era which some viewers may find offensive”. So a few ‘woke’ viewers may be offended at something. Oh dear, oh dear. Aren’t there more important things to be concerned about?

One of the most ridiculous of these warnings I’ve come across recently is on the 4K blu-ray release of 1990’s Total Recall. I mean, this is a film set in the future and made in the early ’90s, and it’s got one of these stupid “viewers may be offended” warnings. Even my brother, who’s in his mid-30s, thought this warning was a little ridiculous. And I’ve struggled to find what attitudes or language in the film could be considered offensive to today’s ‘woke’ viewers.
