No Wonder Drug

I didn’t need a wonder drug.

A new drug is set to transform the lives of thousands of migraine sufferers after it was approved for use on the NHS.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) is recommending eptinezumab for around 164,000 adults where at least three previous preventive treatments have failed.

The drug, given as an intravenous infusion every 12 weeks in hospital, has been found to reduce both frequency and severity of migraine attacks.

Over the years I tried all sorts of remedies to mitigate migraines, but every six weeks or so, I’d get one then I’d be laid out for twelve ours. Then a day or so enduring the postdrome.

Then I stopped drinking coffee. Problem solved. Not had a migraine since. It’s been over a decade now.

  1. I’ve suffered from migraine since I was about 10 years old. A visual disturbance lasting about half an hour, then a headache lasting a couple of hours and a feeling of being disconnected from the world for the rest of the day.
When I was in the RAF the doctor prescribed a couple of medicines which made the symptoms worse so I decided to just live with it. After all, my symptoms are not particularly severe. As I’ve got older the symptoms have become milder, I still get the visual disturbance but hardly ever get a headache now. One of the very few perks of old age. 😉

One thing I learnt over the years: so many people who don’t get migraine know better than me what causes it and are happy to give advice. 🙂

  2. i traced it to mint aero. every time i ate one got a migrain that would last about 3 days until i was right again, totaly incapacitated for 24 hrs of that. a lot of the time the trigger is a certain food or drink

  3. My 18yrs old has regular migraines where he needs to stay indoors in the dark. He just lives with it, and I’m not sure how going to the hosiptal to be injected (not infused! I guess these are journalistic standards nowadays…) every 12 weeks would be any better.

I guess some people must be suffering quite a lot if that is considered a solution.

Notwithstanding the fact that I am now very wary of any new wonder drugs that comes out, after the wonder c19 vaccine debacle.

  4. Well in the last few years, I’ve started getting me!me!me!graines.

Then I cancelled my TV licence and they went away.

I’m trying to work out why.
