The Brazilian three-times Formula One champion Nelson Piquet must pay 5m reals (£780k) in moral damages for racist and homophobic comments about Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton, a Brazilian court ruled on Friday.
I don’t know what he said, nor am I much interested. Hamilton is a stain on the face of humanity, frankly, so I doubt Piquet said anything worse than I might imagine saying about the obnoxious little shit.

Didn’t newspeak remove the concept of ‘free’ unless it had the idea of freedom from something? So a person could be free from disease but not ‘free’ as such.

But I do not have an irrational fear of him.
In the art of going very quickly (subject to restrictions on going too fast) round and round on a perfect road surface in a very expensive thing there are very few can beat him.
Anyone unfamiliar with the story and judging by the fine might think this was some kind of long and sustained campaign of harrassment. To be fair, Piquet’s well known for running his mouth off (ask Our Nige), but he apologized for the original allged slur. So the mob went raking through his bins and unearthed an interview from 2016 containing a “homophobic” remark which raised no comment at the time. It’s all horrifically familiar.
And now he’s in the tank to the tune of a million bucks for “moral damages”. Whatever those are. I suppose he should be thankful they didn’t sentence him to death for impiety and corrupting the youth (it was that Socrates, right?). But how, by any stretch of the imagination, is this “justice”?
Don’t worry, he can just buy off a higher Brazilian judge to overturn the verdict. Brazil is like that.
Let’s hope that he does.
I disliked Hamilton’s reaction to the whole BLM farce. The killing of a violent criminal out of his brains on drugs in the USA seemed to trigger a tsunami of virtue signalling across the world and Hamilton was swept up by it.
But then he started spouting made up nonsense (“I had bananas thrown at me and they called me nigger”) and I realised he’d gone slightly bonkers.
From the age of eight he was taken under the wing of a white man, Ron Dennis, who guided his career to achieve his World Championships. His Mum is white, so what was all this BLM crap doing to her? Piquet is rude and impolite but all he should have done is pull a Lineker and spent some time under the sun lamp. Problem solved.
