Really?

Exciting?

Pastry lovers and loyal Greggs fans will be delighted to learn that the nation’s favourite high street bakery has new and exciting summer menu items landing in stores this week.

On 25 July, Greggs will be launching a Four Slice Sharing Boxes and brand new Katsu Chicken Slice, which will no doubt please hungry park picnickers.

Customers can get the new menu items from Thursday 25 July in all UK Greggs shops, and through delivery via Just Eat and Uber Eats.

The Chicken Katsu slice – the new addition to the ever expanding family of filled pastries at Greggs – is filled with juicy chicken breast in a Japanese-inspired Katsu style curry sauce and is finished with a spiced top layer of crumb.

For those with a craving for Katsu, they will be able to indulge in the smooth chicken curry from the comfort of a buttery puff pastry pocket.

I have, on occasion, been reduced to using Greggs when out and about. Usually due to need and lack of choice. Their sad little pastries filled with some homogonous slurry is hardly what I’d call exciting, but maybe I’m missing something?

  1. While I’m less concerned about anything coming out of Gregg’s being described as exciting, I’m more concerned about some unelected, taxpayer subsidized ‘charity’ deciding that “Four Slice Sharing Boxes” should be made illegal for the benefit of the proles…

  2. Surely LR you know that this kind of nonsense is all about marketing and selling crap to people who don’t know any better. It has the same kind of credibility as the mitigation that is read out in court by the defence before the judge decides the fate of the scrote in question.

I just caught auto correct in time before posting, it wanted to replace scrote with scooter.

  3. I have a sudden recollection of trips to the bike races at Oliver’s Mount and Cadwell Park back in the 1970s. There were stalls selling meat pies with mushy peas. For some reason, if you are hungry enough and outdoors, any old crap is delicious.

  4. I’m a big fan of their breakfast rolls and hot sausage rolls, but the rest of their line is dreadful, and none of these new ones float my boat.

    • I did wonder how much of the ‘article’ was just a cut-and-paste of the press release provided by Greggs.

I sometimes worry that we now live in ‘Press Release World’ where all the news/opinion is whatever the businesses and political parties would want it to be.

      • Modern journalists make me think of the guy in Life of Brian who is selling stones at the entrance to the stoning. Stones are lying everywhere on the ground, he has just gathered some up and put them on his table and is now selling them to gullible people by claiming that they are of superior quality to the ones that you can just pick up free.

        • Hahaha. Reminds me of someone I knew who sent £20 to a woman in return for a ‘magic’ pebble (rather like those you find on beaches) which would guarantee riches.
