The writers at the Guardian are having wet dreams about the eXodus.
The former Twitter could fade away, or help shape a dark future hosting voices of a new authoritarian world
Yeah, I don’t think you twats understand what authoritarianism is. Clue – its what you want to do, not what is happening here. Musk opened up Twitter, as it was, to voices that had been banned – that was authoritarianism. Creating a left wing echo chamber by force is authoritarianism. Letting people speak who might debunk your abject bullshit is not authoritarianism, it is the opposite of authoritarianism.
However, to the point, a few far left voices throwing their toys out of the pram and walking off in a hissy fit isn’t likely to be a big issue for Musk, Trump or the rest of the denizens. Frankly, they will barely notice your absence, so, no, I don’t see it fading away just yet.
Bluesky, emerging as X’s newest rival, has amassed 16 million users, including 1 million in the course of 24 hours last week. Hundreds of thousands of people have quit the former Twitter since Donald Trump’s election victory on 6 November.
Twitter was the first to hit the market. Others have come along – Gab, Minds, Parler and although they managed to get followers, they were all up against the same problem – if the people you want to engage with are on the big, popular platform, the new boys on the block will struggle to gain traction. Bluesky has exactly the same challenge. It might do well and as wit the others I’ve mentioned, would be ideal competition, but I suspect that it will be a niche market, like the others.
Still, the Guardianista can circle jerk themselves over the prospect if it makes them happy.
If only I wasn’t against all social media on principle (apart from commenting on blogs!) I’d join X just because the Guardianista are having a hissy fit.
