Yes, I had an email from EDF about my energy bill.
EDF Energy has issued a price warning to customers starting from today, New Year’s Day.
The energy firm updated its advice to its customers over the Ofgem price cap, which is due to rise again on New Year’s Day, the second price hike in a row.
The firm admitted ‘we know this isn’t ideal news’ as it revealed when the price cap was first announced that its prices would be increasing on January 1 for its customers who are not on a fixed tariff.
Indeed. My immediate switch to a fixed-rate tariff from a competitor wasn’t ideal either. They wanted to double my monthly payments. I declined. Bye…
The answer, of course, is simple. Ditch Nut Zero and start fracking.
Ditch the price cap too. Instead genuinely of competing on price and service quality, when it came in the energy companies started “competing” on how many pence below the (fairly generous) price cap they were. The whole thing was an obvious put-up job; lots of items appearing in the media about people being ripped off by energy companies. Whether these were actually planted or just a matter of having it quietly understood that such articles were a “good thing” I wouldn’t know. Then the Government stepped in to “protect vulnerable consumers” and suddenly when the prices went up at one supplier there wasn’t anyone else offering low enough prices to be worth the trouble of switching.
There wasn’t much difference, but EDF had doubled my monthly payment, and that was too much to swallow.
But if they do any type of calculation of estimating your annual energy use, that monthly payment, DD, corresponds to what you use. In the summer your balance would increase, in the winter it decreases as your boiler is on, net net close to zero balance. Or don’t they believe what you say you use energy and think it must be higher?
I am consistently in credit – even during the winter months. Hence my reluctance to increase my DD. I was giving them a monthly meter reading, so they had accurate information.
The price caps are just a typical example of the government trying to solve a problem that they themselves caused. An additional problem is that there are so many ignorant people who fail to make the connection between the Green Crap and high energy prices. They then fail to make the connection between high energy prices and damage to the economy and falling living standards.
Also, this.

The forecast was for freezing weather sweeping in, and today was delayed bin collection day. So I threw on fur coat AND fur hat, stepped outside to do mine and my two neighbour’s bins, and…nearly got heatstroke! Not even any frost on the cars in the drive!
Frosty and cold here in East Yorkshire. Bright and sunny but it hasn’t warmed up much during the day. Hardly unusual for January.
I’ve just switched to a new company with a fixed rate, which is just a few quid less than I was paying on a variable one.
I’ve also found out that elecricity meters have a ‘use by date’, and we are legally obliged to allow the energy company to fit a new one after that date. Oh, and they only fit smart meters now…
Mine is past due
Mine probably is, as well.
Yes, I have had 2 emails telling me my meter has reached ‘end of life’. I know other people who have also received them. I will continue to ignore them, I am not convinced it is a legal requirement.
I have looked into it and it does appear to be. However I will also continue to ignore them for as long as I can
