Sounds like Hell on Earth.
A huge new Universal theme park is officially set to open in Britain – after the deal was closed by the Government.
The Bedfordshire resort is hoped to bring in 8.5million visitors in its first year alone – after it opens its gates in 2031.
The attraction will be one of the largest and most advanced theme parks in Europe, with a 500-room hotel and a retail and entertainment complex planned along with the theme park.
Nope. You won’t get me anywhere near the place. It will be the same tacky garbage that you get with the likes of Disney World.
I did Disney in Florida years ago, in the 80s. No need to ever do it again.
I had a couple of very good days at Alton Towers about 25 years ago.
Choose to go midweek during school term time, ideally not on a beautiful day that tempts people to have a day out. Be there early, when the gates open, in order to minimise the queueing to riding ratio. Don’t worry about refeshments till after you’ve done all the white knuckle rides you want.
On the other hand, turn up in the afternoon on a sunny day in the school holidays, or on a Bank Holiday, and experience hours of queueing with opportunites to pay inflated prices for tat.
+1 to this. A stay overnight wasn’t too expensive and allowed early access to the rides.
Not my thing either, but if it can manage to be less French than Disneyland Paris, it’ll make a mint.
It would have been more sensible to put it near Birmingham though. Then HS2 might turn out to be useful for something, at least. If nothing else, Universal could take it over and put a couple of loops in it. “World’s longest and fastest theme park ride”… it could be a goer. Just call me PT Barnum.
Roller coasters aren’t my thing. If someone wants to build a theme park and people want to visit it I don’t see a problem. Unless of course there is taxpayer’s money involved, which I suspect that there might be.
Oh, I’d put money on it.
I saw something on Twitter this morning about them finding endangered newts and bats on the proposed site. If true, the 2031 opening date will be pushed back by at least a decade and the costs will spiral
I don’t think we’ll be seeing this theme park for a very long time
Oh dear.
