Treasury raid on forgotten accounts

Gordon Brown is plotting a stealth raid on more than £400 million of money left in dormant bank accounts.

The Chancellor will use the proceeds of the raid – on accounts that have not been touched for the past 15 years – to fund good causes in community and youth services.

The word to describe this is “theft”. I’ve got a couple of accounts that have a few quid in them from a few years back. Time to withdraw, it seems. New Labour really is evil.

In spite of the fact that the plans are being backed by the UK’s leading banks and building societies, they will anger many account holders.

Quelle surprise.
