More Religious Silliness

It seems to be a week of bunkum from believers. Today, the Catholic Church is complaining about the decision by the Anglican Church to ordain women as bishops. Now, in the early 21st Century, you’d think, wouldn’t you, that women bishops would be no big deal. Ahem…

In a statement released through the Vatican Council for the Promotion of Christian Unity, the Vatican said it had “regretfully” learned of the historic vote, which took place last Monday following an epic seven-hour debate.

It read: “Such a decision signifies a breaking away from the apostolic tradition maintained by all of the churches since the first millennium and is a further obstacle for reconciliation between the Catholic church and the Church of England.”

Yes, well, we already knew that the Catholic Church is locked permanently somewhere in the 4th Century. But, frankly, why should anyone care one way or the other about their opinion? It isn’t their church and they don’t set the rules. If they don’t like it, they can go swivel. Although, I doubt Rowan Williams has the gumption to tell them so.

When the Pope kicks up, Williams should just quietly say “Henry VIII”. He won’t though. Pity…

The condemnation came as a senior figure from the Catholic wing of the Church of England warned of a “bloodbath” at next week’s once-a-decade summit, which will draw 700 bishops from around the world.

I do hope he is being metaphorical. Although…

A bunch of silly old men in frocks wittering about what their imaginary friend thinks about who they have in their club. Ye gods.

  1. “…a senior figure from the Catholic wing of the Church of England warned of a “bloodbath” at next week’s once-a-decade summit…”

A bloodbath? Are the good fathers getting ‘tooled up’..? Calling up their ‘homies’ for a ‘drive by’..? (here, I run out of street slang garnered from MTV and 5 year old episodes of ‘The Shield’).

Got to admit, though, it’d probably make summits more interesting 😉

  2. If only they would all slit each others’ throats! That would put an end to their interminable whining, wailing and scrapping.

    ‘Christian brotherly love’, forsooth….

  3. It’s all nonsense of course but the tactics of the liberals in the CoE are classic salami.

Having been brought up in the CoE (and atavistically and very occasionally attending services more to keep my parents happy than for my spiritual welfare although I enjoyed singing the old hymns) I left for ever in the 70s when I married and had children of my own. It was obvious even then that the establishment of the church was becoming more interested in current affairs than eternity and families such as mine were used as cannon fodder for the liberati. Congregations then were declining but offending the CoE’s conservative (non-political) members on both intellectual and, in the widest sense, political grounds on a weekly basis was a highly successful tactic. Accordingly, what you have now in England is a rump of progressive loonies ramming through their 1960s agenda: the CoE is not the Conservative Party at prayer – it’s the clerical wing of the political class ie f*** the search for eternal truth, let’s bust the glass ceiling and get those women a job.
