George Monbiot Talks Arse

I generally avoid reading the bollocks that spews from the keyboard of arch watermelon, George Monbiot. Not least because it is little more than rampant socialism with a green jacket. Poorly researched and hypocritical twaddle – along with a little Al Gore arse licking thrown in for good measure.

Last week he was telling us that bad weather in Machynlleth through the eighties would have made this recent cold snap unexceptional – except that some of us can recall those times and I can assure you that winters in Machynlleth during the seventies and eighties were somewhat mild compared to the recent cold snap. Monbiot has some selective recollections. Indeed, I recall being disappointed at the lack of snow, living as we did, in the Cambrian mountains. I hoped in vain that the school bus would be unable to get through, but was always disappointed. I also recall vividly the winter of 81/82 – as we had deep snow in Bristol. I can assure you that that was definitely exceptional, despite what Monbiot might say to the contrary. Bristol always has milder winters than the rest of the country – and this was the case during the eighties, so snow such as we experienced that winter was the exception.

Anyway, back to the latest bit of arse dribble:

Patio heaters burn liquefied petroleum gas, while most Agas use oil, electricity or coal, which produce more CO2. A large Aga running on coal turns out nine tonnes of carbon dioxide per year: five and a half times the total CO2 production of the average UK home. To match that, the patio heater would have to burn for nine months.

So, it’s Agas now – along with the usual nonsense about CO2; which is an essential gas for life on this planet – oh and the rich who fly from Heathrow. Who might that be, George?

I could bore you with the rest of this pile of shite, but it is perhaps best summed up by the first comment from sadoldfart who has Monbiot sussed:

Typical Monbiot at his most self indulgent and specious. Is his coal Aga running all the time and how many coal Agas are there anyway?

An honest efficiency comparison would be an Aga versus a cooker and central heating both on same fuel, identical sized houses. Is t(say ) the gas Aga an inefficient boiler or not

If Agas are inefficient tell us in a proper scientific manner. No wonder reasonable people gird themselves up to disbelieve you on principle when you get self righteous on climate change.

Incidentally I happen to dislike Agas but I think Aga users are entitled to something better than this drivel.

Yup, Monbiot; self-indulgent, specious, unscientific and once more mounting a hobby horse to tell others what they should do in the name of his religion.

TheNuclearOption makes a similar observation:

George’s analysis is always full of basic errors like this and I notice there are no references so no one can check the source of the information.

Indeed.

And the answer to the question; why is there not a campaign against Agas, is probably that there aren’t that many of them and reasonable people couldn’t care less one way or the other.

And the Guardian pay this cretin for his drivel?

  1. Relax, lad, us Aga owners couldn’t care less what Monbiot thinks.

Nice warm kitchen in the morning, that’s all that matters.

Oh and best toast or porridge in the world. Also tastiest roasts. And not forgetting…

oops, sorry, nearly went on an Aga rant there.

Aren’t they also very popular with the chattering classes who are likely to be Monbiot’s (and the Guardian’s) target audience?
