On Yer Bike

I notice the the Quiet Man has picked up on this idiocy from NICE. However, just to make my position absolutely clear…

Cycling and walking should be the norm for all short journeys, experts say.

The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence said people should shun their cars if a trip could be done in 15 or 20 minutes on foot or bike.

It said the approach was needed to combat the “silent epidemic” of inactivity posing a risk to the health of people in England.

The advisory body called on councils to do more to make walking and cycling an easier option in local communities.

Clearly NICE –  who are anything but –  do not understand their remit. It is not to get involved in how we run our lives, it is not to tell us what exercise to take or how we should move ourselves about. If they want to give advice, then fine. However, some, maybe most might choose to ignore that advice. That, too, is fine. It most certainly is none of their business to be advising councils on parking regulations or fees.

I have been growing increasingly tired of the temperance puritans and their hangers-on badgering me about how I live my life, when it is none of their concern.

So, for NICE, let me state this plainly so that there is no misunderstanding. I have three vehicles and I am not getting rid of any of them. I will use the one I deem most suitable for any given journey, based upon my needs and assessment, not yours. It will be my decision and my decision alone, not yours and not the local council’s because, you see, my life, how I live it and the means of transport I choose is my business, not yours, so be good fellows and fuck off, please.

  1. Cycling and walking should be the norm for all short journeys, experts say.

While Hummvees and V8s should be used for everything else, you know, to compensate.

Anyway, who wants to whizz along with his video camera to NICE HQ and await some senior jackass expert leaving the premises in his chauffeur driven car on his way to an appointment three streets away? Cuz you can bet that’s precisely what these twats are doing while lecturing the rest of us.

  2. Cycling and walking should be the norm for all short journeys

For those of us that can’t drive and refuse to learn then it already is.

For those that can’t afford to fuel their cars then it already is.

Really now…what IS their problem ? you’d think everyone drove cars and purely to piss them off the way they go on. Fact is, they don’t.

  3. Yes, elderly people and mothers with small children should be made to walk the 15 minutes or so to and from the supermarket with four carrier bag loads of shopping in the freezing cold and pouring rain.

Problem is most of there’s cycling and walking freaks live in towns and cities near to all amenities. Many people do not.

  4. I think that NICE has somehow managed to acquire its share of Holy Zealot Common Purpose graduates. Individual employees of NICE have been popping up here and there in the company of ASH employees. They must have been handed the ‘exercise’ portfolio of the Eugenicist programme.
