Stuff and Nonsense

Paxo’s in trouble with the politicians again.

Jeremy Paxman, the combative Newsnight anchor, is at the centre of yet another row after calling the Prime Minister a “complete idiot” for his First World War centenary plans.

So what’s the problem? The man is a vacuous, incompetent, moral-free, ideology-free zone who is nothing more than Blair-lite. Calling him a complete idiot is being kind, I’d have thought. The only saving grace this man has is that he is not Ed Miliband. Which, frankly, ain’t sayin’ much – there’s man dead from the neck up.

And, frankly, I agree with Paxo, liking the commemorations of a war in which millions were thrown needlessly to their slaughter to satisfy the ambitions of the ruling houses and politicians of Europe – all of whom to a man and woman were too cowardly to pick up a rifle themselves and go over the top – with last year’s commemoration of sixty years of the same queen on the throne is pretty crass. Idiotic, even. There is no comparison. One is supposed to be a celebration – the other, surely deeply solemn. A remembrance of just why we no longer send the flower of our youth to far flung lands to die for some spurious cause invented by politicians to further their agenda.

Oh…

But a senior Downing Street aide, Rob Wilson MP, has written to the BBC Director-General Lord Hall demanding an apology from the long-serving Newsnight presenter.

Here we go. What is it with people these days that someone cannot offer a polemic without some over sensitive soul demanding a grovelling apology? Not least when as is the case here, the polemic is accurate.

According to the MailOnline, Mr Wilson wrote: “Mr Paxman should make a full and public apology for his comments. He should make it clear to BBC viewers and licence fee payers that his remarks were inaccurate and ill-founded.”

“This sneering and aggressive approach is one of the reasons many people are put off politics.”

No, you arsehole – it is people like you who put us off politics. Well, politicians, that is. The lying scum on the green benches. I don’t like the media, but they are an improvement on politicians – much like the fly on the dog turd is an improvement on its feast.

Paxman is right, Wilson is wrong. Paxman should absolutely not apologise. He has done nothing here that warrants one.

A BBC spokesperson said: “We have not yet received Mr Wilson’s letter but when we do we will respond in due course.”

Hopefully the reply will be to refer Mr Wilson to the response given in Arkell v Pressdram (1971). That’s what I pay my license fee for.

Sorry I thought you were talking about Paxman.

    • I’ve no idea what Paxman’s ideological views are – other than those expressed recently and they seemed pretty sound. However, he isn’t obliged to. Cameron is.

  2. Hmm…

I consider the likes of Paxman in the same class as the politicians.

He’s paid, a far higher salary than our glorious leader, through coercion. And by offering “serious” commentary on their actions while avoiding the real problems, he helps legitimize them.

  3. “some spurious cause invented by politicians to further their agenda.” – Iraq etc ?
Nowadays the youth is forced into ‘White flight’ to enjoy what should be theirs by right.
