Oh, Dear…

You’ve got to laugh. Well, I did.

The UK Independence Party is the nation’s favourite political party, a poll for The Independent on Sunday reveals today.

Voters regard Nigel Farage’s party more favourably than Labour, the Conservatives or the Liberal Democrats.

Whatever Ukip’s faults, giving the big three a kicking is satisfying. The vile lookalike liblabcon are far too comfortably ensconced with their grubby little fingers on the levers of power – meddling and micromanaging our lives, paying with our money for various lobby groups, quangos and fake charities to lobby and influence our lives for the worse. So, a shock to their cosy little system is a good thing.

The surprising finding will underline concerns inside the mainstream Westminster parties that Ukip is on course to come first in May’s European elections and could deny Labour or the Tories an outright victory in next year’s general election.

I’m not surprised. Not remotely. Indeed, I expected something like this sooner or later. But then unlike the guardianista or the troughers existing in the rarefied atmosphere of Westminster, I am mixing with and talking to ordinary people – ordinary people who are sick to death of the constant interfering, thieving, lying and piss-taking that we have to endure from the political classes. I am used to hearing people saying that they plan to vote Ukip – people who, a few years back wouldn’t have dreamed of doing so.

And, no, they are not closet racists or fruitcakes. They are ordinary people who have been systematically betrayed by the politicians who currently govern us.

  1. The other week I saw an old friend from school and I stopped for a chat.

It turned out he was a Labour councillor (I didn’t bring politics up, he was proud of it and eager to tell anyone who’d listen).

So I mentioned the increasing popularity of UKIP, and he said he couldn’t understand it, he didn’t know why anyone would vote for them. He said in meetings they’d had, none of the other Labour councillors or activists knew why either.

I offered a few reasons and was condescendingly told I was completely wrong. Apparently I should stop watching the BBC, it’s right-wing, pro-Tory propaganda…

    • It can do. At the moment, I’m in a fairly good place, so I can laugh at the politicos without getting too angry. That will change, I guess. It always does.

  2. I’m retired but I’m still working because I have to. I work in a retail outlet where I deal with trades-people, builders, interior decorators and the like. I converse with many of them, especially on rainy days when they avail themselves of the free tea and coffee made available to them.
Without exception, each and every one of them is completely pissed-off with the Coagulation. Their earnings are down and their taxes are up. Result? Back-pocket banking. Two quotes are given to their customers, one in writing, one verbally. The written quote includes all the taxes and other Government-imposed thefts. The verbal quote is the ‘cash-in-hand’ quote.
    Guess which quote is taken?
Every small business-man I’ve spoken with is going to be a UKIP voter. Where I work UKIP is going to be a shoe-in, the vast majority of working people despise Cameron, they loathe Millipede and they wouldn’t pee on the Lib-Dems if they were on fire. All the traders want is for the Government to get off their backs and leave them alone to do their jobs, earn their living and pay what they consider a fair amount of tax, the going rate of which is a standard 10 -12% of declared earnings and the scrubbing of the VAT completely.

  3. Errr
AIUI VAT “accounts” (ahem) for well over 50% of the total tax take in this country.
Even allowing for lower taxes, as we would all like … what are you going to put in its’ place?

    • Nothing. Slash government spending. There are whole departments that could be closed. Not to mention stopping all third sector spending on fake charities, quangos and think tanks as well as ceasing all foreign aid.

  4. Last Reichtag elections here, the AfD (Alternativ für Deutschland, a sort of German UKIP.) Were STREETS ahead in all the polls. In some places putting even that commy bitch into second place.

    What happened?

They got only 4,9% of the vote. Which is 0,1% under what they need for a seat in the Reichstag.

    What happened in between?

Possibility 1) The vote was fiddled (and there is evidence of that, such as a whole post van “found” after the count with sacks full of AfD postal votes. (AND it was not the ONLY one!)) Parts of Hamburg had more votes cast than people who live there, including those to young to vote!

Possibility 2) The imbicilic public, showing the usual sub-human intelligence, decided to vote what they had always voted, in spite of the evidence, and what they said they were going to do beforehand.

I can see similar happening with UKIP. PARTICULARLY Possibility 1).

    • The British electorate voted several times consecutively for New Labour.

Even allowing for our pro-lab voting boundaries, this speaks volumes for the electorate’s collective intelligence.

Perhaps it’s time to at least consider the abandonment of universal franchisement, and make it a privilege earned by passing some sort of comprehension test – although I foresee that would disenfranchise around 90% of the electorate and 100% of the politicians…

      • And, likely as not, in the face of all of the evidence of thirteen years of incompetent governance, the electorate is highly likely to put Miliband into number ten come May 2015. Cretins!

    • I think the ‘support’ that many think UKIP has, might just be be over represented by the angry middle aged men congratulating themselves on how they can see the real problem in politics on the internet…..

In less than a week since David Silvester ranted off a spoof Twitter account @UkipWeather has got over 100,000 followers while the official UKIP account has under 37,000 and been running a great deal longer.
