So… Er…

The BBC are not, definitely not, going to show the Top Gear footage of doughnuts by the Cenotaph.

The Cenotaph in London will not be shown on Top Gear footage filmed over the weekend, the BBC says.

The show has been criticised after host Matt LeBlanc and a professional driver performed “doughnuts” near the war memorial.

Co-host Chris Evans apologised for the stunt, and said he and the crew were “mortified”.

In a statement, the BBC apologised and said the Cenotaph was never intended to appear in the programme.

A statement they repeated on the BBC news while showing the offending footage…  Ahem…

In the  meantime, out here in the real world does anyone give a flying fuck? No, it is not disrespectful to the war dead (who, being long dead, don’t care and if they were alive, might well watch Top Gear). No, it isn’t important. And really, if you are offended (mortified, even), then you are so thin-skinned, I’m surprised your organs aren’t spilling out over the pavement.

This is a non-issue being turned into manufactured outrage.

  1. As your ‘tolerance’ increases and respect for the traditions and the past fade, you will be not surprised when some lively younger fellow – for a bit of a lark – kicks you in the teeth (if you have any).

  2. It’s an obvious publicity stunt. They film something that might be considered controversial and then release it to the media, hoping for an outraged reaction that will get the public talking about the show. The media know they are being used but will happily go along with it as long as it gives them a good story. Everybody pretends to be shocked, like Captain Renault “discovering” that there is gambling going on at Rick’s bar. The BBC then brings the whole cynical charade to a conclusion by announcing that they won’t use the footage in the show, without mentioning that they don’t actually need to use it again because it has already served its purpose.

  3. I think they should do it again, only with Evans and le Blanc strapped to the rear wheels.

  4. WHat it is is an indication how how completely f**king spineless the BBC and Evans are going to be. Like little scared puppies they roll over at the first whiff of a letter to the Grauniad.

So who is now going to be sacked at the BBC and also at Westminster Council for the vast waste of licence payers and taxpayers money that this wasted footage cost to film? oh yes… that would be us stupid bastards…
