More Brexit nonsense.

A group of Eastern European countries will veto any Brexit deal that diminishes the rights of their citizens who live and work in Britain, Slovakia’s prime minister has said.

Robert Fico said the Visegrad Four (V4) – the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia – want a guarantee that their nationals “are equal” before agreeing to any deal ahead of Britain leaving the European Union.

Is anyone saying they aren’t “equal”? Whatever that is supposed to mean. Okay, cards on the table here; the one thing that I liked about the EU was the freedom of movement principle. I like the  idea of a free flow of goods, trade, services and people across borders. However, if Brexit means an end to that, I’ll live with it for the wider benefits – being rid of the bureaucracy and democratic deficit that the EU represents, primarily.

But, here’s the thing, the EU shouldn’t get any say in how we leave, when leave or, frankly, what happens after. The best approach is to repeal the European Communities act, invoke article 50, and declare that we are open for business without trade tariffs and we should be offering tax incentives too. Take it or leave it, but you don’t get to impose any rules on us. If UK businesses wish to do business in the EU, fine, like other nations doing trade there, they will need to abide by those rules. Otherwise, fuck off, frankly.

Should we give a fig for what the Slovakian prime minister thinks? Okay, let me take a moment to give that some consideration…

Okay, thought about it.

Fuck off already. Take it or leave it.

  1. I think that the problem here may be that it is really easy to hand out privilages but really difficult to take them away. This is why the fight against socialism is so difficult. Any non socialist government that takes over from a socialist government has to deprive a significant section of the population of a shedload of freebies. Getting the people who are actually paying for these freebies on side seems to be surprisingly difficult.

  2. Well here we have the heads of four of the countries that are top of the tables for exporting thier people to the rest of Europe throwing a tantrum that the game is over.

I am not going to lose any sleep over that. Thier reaction alone proves that we are doing the right thing by getting out of the EU so we can control our borders again.

  3. The BBC have been running stories about various UK industries that are dependent on foreign workers to operate. They never quite say it, but seem to be implying that, post brexit, non of these workers will be available any more. As if it would be too difficult for us to work out a system of permits for foreign workers to be employed here.
