Nah

They’re smarter.

The idea that dogs are more intelligent than cats has been called into question.

What? They’ve only just caught on to what we kitty observers have known all along. Dogs are lovable oafs, but when it comes to world domination, the felines have it. Cunning, smart, manipulative, imperious and aloof, they have it all. And if you treat them badly, they walk. A cat knows what is best for the cat and goes out and finds it. There’s no competition here.

Japanese scientists say cats are as good as dogs at certain memory tests, suggesting they may be just as smart.

Bear in mind here that the cat may decide not to play, so is, in fact, smarter.

This is another piece of “research” that tells us what we have already known since cats first decided to adopt people as their pets.

The Japanese team tested 49 domestic cats on their ability to remember which bowl they had already eaten out of and which remained untouched, after a 15-minute interval.

Statistically insignificant and therefore junk science, even if it is amusing and even if it does tend to correlate with my own observations.

  1. which bowl they had already eaten out of and which remained untouched, after a 15-minute interval.

Methodology! No feat of memory required. A cat can smell which bowl it has eaten from. Also, “10 out of 10 cats prefer a full food bowl.”

  2. If my two mograts are anything to go by then I think cats are stunned. I’ve lost count of the number of times they’ve got stuck in a drawer. Not just any old drawer, but the same bloody drawer every blasted time.

    Aloof – check
Manipulative – They try – but fail. I’m wise to their attempts
    Destructive – check
    Cunning – check
    Spiteful – check
    Kills for fun – check

    Cats would make ideal politicians!
