It Had to Happen

That a motorcyclist would kick the racism thing back.

A motorbike instructor has slammed a garage for ‘racism’ after he was allegedly told to remove his open face helmet – while a woman in a burka filled up next to him.

Liam Bradley, 48, claims he was filling up his bike at the Shell garage at the Three Arches Spar shop in Blackburn, Lancashire, on Wednesday when a message appeared on the LCD screen demanding he remove his helmet.

Despite being annoyed that his face was showing as he wore an open face helmet and having used the station ‘hundreds’ of times, Liam obliged.

However the instructor was left furious when he realised a lady in a burka was allegedly being allowed to fill up unchallenged at the same time.

One rule for them and one rule for us. Of course, the garage would have been afraid of being called racists if they had insisted that the Muslim woman remove her veil. What’s now happening is that middle-aged white blokes are using the weapon that has been used against them. And about time, too.

Like Liam Bradley, I wear a flip-front helmet. The idea of these helmets is that in such a situation, people can see our faces. I have never taken off my helmet when filling up and do not intend to. I would ride away and find fuel elsewhere sooner that take my helmet off and either balance it on the bike where it might fall and get damaged, or put it on the ground covered in spillage.

However, the increasing arguments over the Muslim veil has intensified this issue. I know of a garage local to me that insisted a regular customer – likewise with Hi Viz displaying the school’s name – was requested to remove his helmet. He hasn’t gone back and I won’t either.

If a Muslim can buy petrol while hiding her face, then a motorcyclist can buy petrol without removing his helmet. What’s good for the goose…

  1. I’ve had this rubbish as well, and was asked to remove my helmet. I asked the proprietor if he would insist on a muslim woman removing her niqab, he replied that he wouldn’t. Fine I said, then you won’t mind if I don’t take my helmet off either then. Told him to shove it and went to another garage.

  2. Only 2 minor problems;
    1) Motorcyclists and Hijab / Burka wearers are not a race, therefore discrimination against them cannot be deemed as racism. The bloke therefore appears to be an inept prick.
    2) Helmets reduce aural perception, and therefore decrease safety in situations such as forecourts. Most police riders will tell you that helmet wearing in non-riding situations causes increased risk due to lack of audio perception, and are instructed when dealing with the public to remove helmets and revert to backup comms rather than inbuilt when communicating with control.

The bloke should be fucked off out of the bike industry for being a predictable dullard. Although I’m sure the sheep behind the counter of the station was simply following ‘procedure’.

    • “Most police riders will tell you that helmet wearing in non-riding situations causes increased risk due to lack of audio perception,…”

Hmmm, I wonder if that’s why, just the other day when a police motorcyclist was stopping traffic on the Embankment, he completely ignored the scooter rider who shot through the red light and nearly ran me down?

          • About as much as I take any notice of police protocol when I fill up with petrol. The aural loss is so low that the amount of riders who have come a cropper walking across a forecourt because they didn’t hear something coming is as close to zero as makes no difference.

          • How do you think they’d ‘come a cropper’ with a lid on? They’d not sustain any head injuries.

Looks like your siding with the muzzies by supporting headgear in petrol stations.

    • Absolute BS

      1. Bikers can hear fine with helmet on, even when ear-plugs used.

      2. Bikers are acutely aware of all aural, visual, olfactory and NVH – if not they don’t survive.

      3. I’ve seen bike cops interacting with public with flip face helmet on. Also conversed with them after a stop.

      4. You’re trolling imho

      • Yes, he is trolling. He’s the same troll as John Walton. If you look at the pattern it’s the same. He makes what appears to be a valid statement then uses outrageous strawman arguments to derail the conversation when people respond. Another trick is to use a very general statement – most policemen… for example – and when people respond claim that they have no evidence for their assertions. Left long enough, he descends to the ad hom.

When I bounced him, he came back as “Will” then “James” and now “David”. Same ISP but more importantly, the same sneering condescension and passive aggressive voice. You can hide your IP, but everyone writes with a voice and it is incredibly difficult to disguise and this guy is so full of himself, he can’t help the superior attitude.

Usually, I can spot him straight away and delete the comment. Sometimes, however, it’s not always so certain, so I give him free reign and see what happens. Then I ban him. There were several comments last night that were blatant trolling and a couple that were reasonable, which is a shame, but I have a zero tolerance for trolls.

  3. Wow – I wrote this on OOL ~30 mins ago

A biker backlash against “Remove Helmet” would be nice – Biker & Helmet are my religion, law says I must wear helmet.

  4. Keep the top part of a burka, from the shoulders up, in your bike pack. Before filling up, put that on, under the helmet. When they ask for the helmet removed, remove it and carefully set aside. Meantime, let them dare ask for the burka and veil to be removed next. If they do, call the Guardian and make an issue out of it. And as an additional precaution to be forced to remove the burka by a law enforcement agent, be sure to be wearing a dark heavy face veil, under that of the burka top. Don’t make it easy for them.

  5. In several years of motorcycling it happened to me once. I’d filled up then I went inside to pay. The conversation went something like this:
Me: The bike at pump 4.
Him: You need to take your helmet off.
Me: I can’t hear you I’ve got earplugs in. It’s the bike at pump 4.
Him: YOU HAVE TO TAKE YOUR HELMET OFF.
Me: The bike at pump 4
    Him: TAKE YOUR HELMET OFF.
Me: (Acting puzzled) It’s the bike at pump 4.
    Him: £10.50
    Me: I know.
Then I paid and left. 🙂

  6. What’s good for the goose…

Motorcyclists already rolled over for the Sikhs, can’t see it being any different for the Muslims.

Few will dare complain, those that do won’t organise effectively and will end up either completely ignored or branded as thugs and racists.

And the gleeful march to cultural suicide will continue unabated.

  7. Simply wear a Klu Klux Klan outfit. It is the same as a burka, just a different colour and see where that gets you. You can always claim that you are a GOOD white hat (or burka) Muslim as opposed to those bad, black burka Muslims.
