Met Police chief Cressida Dick has revealed that at least two suspected moped thieves suffered broken bones as they were rammed by police cars.
She said that there has been ‘at least one person’ who has broken their arm’ and another who has had ‘some sort of break’.
The controversial method that sees officers use force to tip thieves off their mopeds and onto the ground has been criticised for being dangerous.
It’s about time these scumbags were brought to heel. They set out to cause harm to others. Therefore if they suffer harm in the course of such actions, that’s just too bad. It is long overdue that the police took robust action and I’m more than happy to see them engage in this manner. A thief relinquishes all rights the moment they set out to commit their crime.
So, yeah, tough.
However Miss Dick’s backing of the new measures come after Labour’s Diane Abbott slammed the new measures as ‘potentially very dangerous’.
I see that being right about something was clearly too much for Abbott and she has reverted to type. I don’t care if it is dangerous for the nasty thieving little scrotes. They are a danger to the public. And it is clear from the reactions to this that the public is more than happy with the approach.
Ms Abbott had tweeted her disdain for the new tactics and said that ‘police are not above the law’.
True enough. However, they are entitled to use reasonable force and this is clearly that.
The only caveat that I can think of is that there might be a small possibility of some moped rider just pootling along minding his own business becoming a victim because the police knocked over the wrong guy.
Possible. However, unlikely as that person would be much more likely to stop when ordered to by the police.
Good. Reasonable force.
There is no reason why we should care: and I don’t. I just feel it is a shame the broken bones were not of the neck variety.
I like that. Issue lassos to cops?
🙂
Motorcycle riding (like motorsport) is dangerous. Ride riskily and likelihood of injury increases. Combine risk with criminal behaviour and injury more likely.
Thugs made decision to commit crime, Tough sh!t live with.consequences.
Just like I lived with many MX injuries/pain from grazes, cuts, stitches to multiple broken fingers, ribs and arms and a punctured lung (handlebar) – not all at same time.
