Tim Martin is the new Scrooge if you believe the media.
Wetherspoons refuses to pay staff and tells them to get jobs at Tesco instead
If you were to point out that this is misrepresenting what he said, you would be engaging in remarkable generosity. Go to the article and watch the linked video. This is very much not what he said. Even in the article they expand on his comments, but the headline is as far as most people will read and they are now believing that he said what is in the headline. Which, of course, he didn’t.
This is a blatant example of the media smearing someone.
They are scum.
DM’s Metro headline is mendacious. When I posted the Tim Martin DM link yesterday for @DK it was in praise of Tim’s honesty and pragmatic “no contractual ties” approach and I’m sure many of his staff will appreciate the freedom and work/volunteer elsewhere.
As usual media concentrate on the few who take to twatter and whine. IMO Tim Martin deserves a Knighthood

Delingpole: Coronavirus — Peter Hitchens Is Right…
Good article, agree. Nice seeing Hector commended
@LR
A thought. You seem calm, rational and sane amongst the panicking herds. I consider myself to be same.
Could it be linked to a ‘bikeresque risk awareness’ gene? Bikers that don’t have it tend to die*, whilst the risk awareness like Guy Martin don’t. All ‘normal’ people I know thinks he’s mental, to me he’s like me
* Three on-road crashes in 17-23 age when 365d/yr use (no gravel rash, worst injury: broken finger), none since
– diesel (17): lesson learned “always look and smell”
– foot peg grounded (21): lesson learned detect & react, recovered from subsequent occurrences, then fitted MX pegs
– in snow, put sidestand down, dismounted & bike fell over (23): lesson learned ice build up
Off-road MX: broken arms, fingers, ribs, clavicle…. legs OK no gravel rash
That logic fails unfortunately. I’m in the minority with my motorcycle acquaintances. Interestingly the bike club is broadly with me whereas my fellow instructors are mostly against me with the odd exception.
As I see it, governments across the world were faced with a Hobson’s choice. Neither option was going to be pretty. However, this option will have long term economic fallout resulting in crippling debts that our grandchildren’s generation will be paying off. People are going to go bust. A significant number are likely to take the easy way out. Add to that, the power grab. Governments are very poor at repealing legislation and every grab they make turns the ratchet. We might find ourselves getting used to the police routinely stopping us and the state locking us down when the next crisis comes along.
The alternative was to let nature take its course and ride the storm.

Although not exact – there is some crossover, not far off.
