If this is genuinely a national crisis on the scale of the Second World War, as the government’s extraordinary economic and political measures suggest, then we should mobilise the full resources of the state to face it. To do this, why not institute a form of conscription suited to a peacetime crisis: an NHS national service?
Right. So we now need to enslave people. It doesn’t take much to bring all the vile little wannabe fascists out of the woodwork, does it?
This twat tries to evoke the Blitz spirit as a reason for turning people into slaves of the state – for enforced servitude is precisely that. He also notes that other countries still have military conscription so that makes it all okay. That other countries do something does not make it okay.
People volunteered to help out – I am among the number. I chose to offer my services and that is precisely how it should be. The state – no state – should have the right to press people into service. Never. Under any circumstance whatsoever. If we fought a war, if we endured the Blitz with fortitude, it was for precisely this reason – to maintain and defend even at high cost, the right to live as free people. And that means not being pressed into the service of the state.

There seem to be lots of people watching how quickly the Government is willing to clamp down on civil liberties during a ‘crisis’ and deciding that their little pet hate should also be among the new draconian rules. There are some seriously vile and deranged people out there
Many more people than the Government asked for, volunteered to help the NHS, so what do we need conscription for anyway? Probably to be rolled out again in a time when people would not think it necessary to volunteer their free time for no pay

Yes, I tweeted (Sorry, I do Twitter :-)) a picture from a local Facebook page that’s supposed to be about helping locals get through the crisis. Some knob had asked if they should call the police if they see people not sticking to the lockdown rules. All the answers were, ‘yes’

Agreed. Since millions have volunteered, this crap is unnecessary anyway. I wanted to volunteer but I’m diabetic so they won’t let me.

Yes, I keep myself really fit because diabetes is much less of an issue if I do. But my immune system can be compromised and that is a problem. Also my blood glucose levels go haywire if I get any flu type bug and that can cause long term damage.
