Drinking hand sanitiser?

Three people have reportedly died and one left permanently blind after drinking hand sanitiser.

Health officials say the fatalities, which occurred in New Mexico, were linked to methanol poisoning, CNN reports.

Another three people who are believed to have drunk the product are in a critical condition, the state’s Department of Health says.

What? I guess Darwin was onto something.

The incidents are thought to be related to alcoholism.

You do surprise me.

  1. Soviet troops in Afghanistan used to extract the alcohol from both their boot polish and ethanol-based toothpastes. Nothing gets in the way of a thirsty dipsomaniac and their booze…

  2. Told by an American who served in Vietnam that Aqua Velva was the aftershave of choice due to it’s alcohol content. Where there’s a will, etc….

  3. By way of confession, late one evening gruesomely drunk in an unfamiliar pub but wanting more to keep me company at home I spotted some miniatures behind the bar.

    “gimme three of them darlin…”

Got home somehow, they turned out to be food colourants, for effect only. Probably the Barmaids revenge for some unintended sleight.

  4. Our local small distillery normally produces Gin. They realised that sanitiser was in short supply so overnight the next batch of alcohol was ready as sanitiser.

  5. CNN?…..I am amazed this story wasn’t somehow linked to something DJT had said……
