So, there’s a new strain of Rona out there.
A new variant of coronavirus has been found which is growing faster in some parts of England, MPs have been told.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock said at least 60 different local authorities had recorded Covid infections caused by the new variant.
He said the World Health Organization had been notified and UK scientists were doing detailed studies.
He said there was “nothing to suggest” it caused worse disease or that vaccines would no longer work.
It’s a coronavirus and coronaviruses are RNA viruses, which means that they mutate rapidly, so this was entirely predictable. Indeed, some of us were predicting it months ago.
As for that fathead Handcock, the vaccine will work fine on the strain for which it has been developed, but likely to be next to useless on any new strain, which is the reason the flu vaccine is so inefficient. Which is why I won’t bother with a vaccine. Pointless.
But, no, the vaccine is a golden bullet – a cure, no less. We are governed by authoritarian idiots and surrounded by complicit, docile idiots who obey every directive they are given and believe every lie they are told and abandoned critical thinking a long time ago.

I don’t get the 1984 totalitarian control bit. If the government wanted to control them put tanks on the streets. If it’s global ? Governments put tanks on the streets. From the start the our (GB) government have being inept and it is fairly common knowledge that the flu virus mutates. That said I’ve the jab for 10 years and haven’t had the flu for most of them so I reckon it works. Not a golden bullet but works.
Ah, but as Leggy points out, how do you know? This is always the thing with these vaccines. If you didn’t get it anyway, did the vaccine work?
That said, no harm was done, so all okay.
While I generally opt for the incompetence explanation, why have tanks on the streets if you can get the population to voluntarily agree to their incarceration?
You and others have made this point. No need for tanks on street etc if you can get the population to comply anyway but, I just don’t see what’s in it for any government to tank, pardon the expression , the economy

Until just now I’d never heard of this and I reckon most in government like wise. Philosophers to me and I’m no expert are just hypothetical thinkers and not doers. Just wish the whole Covid-19 shit would piss off. Also wish our current Government would stop contradicting itself all of the time. Whilst I’m on a wish list I wish the government would defund the bbc and shift the narrative of constant woke moaning bullshit news and let all the wishy washy politicians with no real solutions just fade away.. The only time in the last 10 years that I’ve suffered anything worse than a bad sniffle was also the only year I’ve had a “Flu” jab. The “Quack” practically forced it on me, when I was in for something else. Having recently read that surgeries get a bounty of nearly £13 for each shot given, I can understand why she was so quick to get the needle out…
I have never had a flu jab and I haven’t had flu for at least 10 years, it might be 15 as I honestly can’t remember when.
I do work among people who have a yearly jab (because their work provides it for free) and have had the flu.
As I see it the effectiveness of these “jabs” isn’t that conclusive
Problem usually is that the ‘flu vaccine is for last year’s strain.
Did Hancock not realise that there’s different strains of flu every year, and Bat Flu is unlikely to be any different?

A paper in Nature by François Balloux among others provides some helpful context. He pointed out in a Twitter thread that he and his team had identified 12,000 variants/mutations, none of which increased transmission or led to more severe infections.
