That Was A Waste of Time, Then

Apparently only a fifth of people have the covid app.

Just over one fifth of people have downloaded the NHS Covid App and are using it correctly, according to a new poll by YouGov.

The survey suggests most people are either abusing the app in some way, have deleted it or never downloaded it in the first place.

I find this slightly heartening. There is hope yet. It means that four fifths see this monstrosity of what it is and have rightly eschewed it. Worries about being pinged aren’t an issue if you don’t have the app and don’t sign in anywhere, which is exactly what I’ve been doing. Not been pinged once.

Meanwhile, just over a third of people said they had deleted the app or were not using it properly, which can include switching bluetooth off or avoiding checking into venues.

Is this evidence that human nature is slowly reasserting itself. I do hope so. Subverting this government’s insane rules is the only way to defeat them, to make them unworkable. So far, apart from not being able to work during the lockdowns and self isolating due to an impending hospital visit last year, I have cheerfully ignored each and every stupid, insane, anti-scientific rule this poltroons have dreamed up. The more people I speak to, the more I realise that I am not alone. There is a quiet army of resusniks out there doing our best to undermine this government and its totalitarian agenda.

  1. Went open water swimming this morning, stopped off at a cafe in a garden centre on the way back. Masks not required in the garden centre but almost everyone in there was wearing one. There is a long way to go I’m afraid. Maybe the phone app is seen as being really obtrusive whereas wearing a mask is no inconvenience for those already in the habit.

    • ‘wearing a mask is no inconvenience for those already in the habit.’

Good one! (it is a religious cult after all)

  2. From the Mail:

“The government initially appeared to soften its line on self-isolation today, with a minister today suggesting it was fine for people to ignore the app if they think it is the ‘right thing’ to do. Paul Scully struck a starkly different tone from Boris Johnson’s press briefing last night, when the PM insisted that self-isolation rules must stay in place to control soaring infections. The business minister stressed that obeying the app was not a legal requirement, and people were being encouraged to ‘make decisions on what’s best for them’. No10 quickly tried to slap down Mr Scully, insisting it is ‘crucial’ people isolate when told to do so by the app or by contact tracers”

If it’s not actually a legal requirement, I wonder how many folk realise? If they are stupid enough to download the app, then just ignore the pings…

  3. If only 1/5 of the population(?) are using this ‘properly’, why are there so many ‘pings’ just after the so-called freedom day? One assumption is that people are mixing more, albeit outdoors – another might be that the signal processing has been altered to help create another wave

  4. Never bothered with the App. It didn’t work properly at first anyway. Cost billions too. Waste of money. It’s Magic Money so they don’t care. Now it is screwing businesses. With most people inoculated why is the government still urging people to isolate if pinged?

  5. one fifth using it, epidemic of self isolation. go figure.

tried to book an ocado delivery this morning for two days time, usually no issue, today there are no delivery slots available till Saturday.

    again, go figure.

if everyone had the app, and obeyed the relentless pinging, the country would be at a standstill.

ps going down the pub tonight. no app. no mask.

  6. If you work in the public sector, the test and trace app is an excellent way to get 2 weeks of paid ‘duvet days’ or ‘staycation’, whenever you want, as often as you want.

Sunshine has finally arrived, and suddenly lots of people are claiming to be pinged so they must stay in their gardens all day.
    What a surprise.

No problem, just extort more tax from the private sector to pay for this.
