Idiot

Alec Baldwin.

Firstly, he thinks his career is over. Well, fine, I doubt he’ll be missed. However…

“I don’t know what happened on that set. I don’t know how that bullet arrived in that gun. I don’t know,” Mr Baldwin said.

Doesn’t matter how it got there, it’s a principle of weapons safety it that he was obliged to check. He didn’t, therefore he was to blame – along with whoever did put a live round in the gun.
“The trigger wasn’t pulled. I didn’t pull the trigger.
Okay, so how did it go off?

“I cock the gun. I go, ‘Can you see that? Can you see that? Can you see that?’

“And then I let go of the hammer of the gun, and the gun goes off,” Mr Baldwin said.

Facepalm.

  1. I don’t know much about guns. What I know (or think I know) about guns, I’ve gleaned from TV programmes and films. But when the hammer on a gun is pulled back, doesn’t it remain there until the trigger is pulled?

  2. Colt Single Action – if you cock the gun without your finger on the trigger the pistol will either stay cocked or possibly drop to half-cock (remote chance).

If you cock it then pull the trigger – BANG

If you already have the trigger depressed and cock it the hammer will fall and – BANG.

It’s single action therefore the trigger pull could be very light – about 3 0r 4 pounds pressure.

Some Western’s the shooter will draw and then fire by “fanning” the hammer with his left hand palm – but all the while the trigger does need to be pressed.

    • Possibly faulty but if you pull the hammer back on a SAA Colt i am thinking it would drop to half-cock if the trigger was not depressed.

Half cock is required to rotate the cylinder freely for loading through the loading gate of emptying cartridges out of each chamber when unloading.

I think Mr Baldwin screwed up – on checking the weapon, handling it and also as a producer on a movie that appears to have been a complete clusterXXXX

  3. I read somewhere, shortly after the accident, that the gun had gone off accidentally before.
And someone commented – ‘how often have you picked up a cordless drill and pressed the button before you wanted to’?

    • Dear Addolff

According to the gun videos I have watched, the correct way to handle a hand gun is to keep your trigger finger extended along the body of the gun until the gun is pointed at the target and you are ready to fire.

      Hope this helps.

  4. What is unsurprising however is how as a good Holywood liberal, he doesn’t take responsibility for his actions.

If you have to point a gun at someone, you’d better make triple sure that it isn’t loaded, and even then, you’d first try cocking it or whatever several times whilst aiming at the ground or somewhere safe. Basic stuff.
