99 Blue Balloons

It would now appear that her majestey’s loyal opposition consists of 99 decent conservative MPs who sit on the government benches. While the act of tyranny passed as expected, given that Keir Starmer thinks that he is the deputy PM, the rebellion was significant and welcome. We have a PM who is out of control and a leader of the opposition supporting him with the caveat that the tyranny should be more and harder.

I can only hope that those 99 who stood up for liberty and decency will gradually be joined by others as the weeks and months pass. Especially if we are forced into another lockdown over a variant that is about as virulent as the common cold.

How long, one wonders, can Boris continue? A rebellion that size tells us that he is losing the confidence of his own party, although that he still has any at all at this stage is disappointing. A new leader who is prepared to reverse this insanity and tell SAGE where to stick it, would be refreshing, although I’m not holding my breath when I look at the likely contenders.

My MP voted with the government as he always does. Good little party animal that he is. I will never cast a vote for him ever again.

  1. “Another 5pm press conference has been called.” Perhaps Carrie has made up her mind what Boris is to say?

  2. I suppose that it is too much to hope for that there will be total non compliance. It certainly would be unenforceable if enough venues refused to comply. As I mentioned on an earlier post, the Hull Bonus Arena promised a load of Covid theatre but then didn’t actually do any of it on the day. I was so close to deciding not to go.

  3. I thought I would seek your opinion on this comment from Roy on the Fahrenheit211 blog. It seems about right to me.

“It’s now clear we don’t actually have a government we are a nation that has rulers. Government is democratic and makes sure things run well while itself obeying the rules. Rulers on the other hand do what they like and the little people do as they are told. Our rulers clearly don’t know what to do about the virus, criminal justice, the immigration problem and don’t have a clue how to run the economy. They are rich themselves and they don’t care about the people, I have never seen such a mess in a lifetime of interest in political matters. Today I met a gent who told me he was 65 just retired and that the country was in such a mess he hoped not to live much longer. What a sad indictment on our posh boy, rich pretend government.”

  4. It was good to see such a large rebellion, but not a single one of those is ever going to become leader.

All the main contenders for the throne if Boris does go supported it (apart from Rishi who I think abstained) so a new leader isn’t going to make a jot of difference apart from reducing the influence of Princess Nut Nut.

  5. “How long, one wonders, can Boris continue?”

    And:

“Our rulers clearly don’t know what to do about the virus, criminal justice, the immigration problem and don’t have a clue how to run the economy.”

You miss the point entirely. The only thing that is important to these creatures is being in power and in charge. It doesn’t matter if they have as much idea on how to run things as a hydrocephalitic chimpanzee stoned out of its head on Acid. Being in power is the be-all and end-all of their ambitions.

The rest of the country doesn’t matter – they, like Castle Grey Skull – HAVE THE POWER!

  6. Well, the sheep have voted with their feet (why does anyone at this point still think the government knows best?) and have plunged the hospitality and entertainment industry into penury at their traditionally busiest and most profitable period of the year.

I have never, ever been more disappointed in my fellow citizens…

  7. Team day with my old colleagues planned for tomorrow in Liverpool St. They are having a meeting later as some don’t want to take a chance with omicron. I despair…

    • I have a sister who decided that we should have tests before attending a family gathering due to omicron. It ended up being cancelled because we all refused. And I’m in the doghouse.

  8. I’m following all this closely because it affects the overall government of the country. But the sad fact is that Boris could fall tomorrow and it wouldn’t affect the tyranny of Gauleiter Sturgeon one jot.

However bad he is, Johnson has some way to go to beat Tony Blair as Britain’s worst ever Prime Minister. A hell of a long way.
