Needn’t Cost A Penny

Wah, wah, wah.

And from April 1 free lateral flow and PCR testing – which has been costing the taxpayer £2billion a month – is being abandoned, except for very limited supplies for the elderly and very vulnerable. Details of who gets them will be decided later by the UK Health Security Agency.

Quelle horreur!

It doesn’t have to cost one penny piece. Not one cent, not one sou.  Just don’t do a bloody test. There, problem solved. Job done. All fixed.

  1. It seems that, since the government has decided that it is time to return to normal, they want the numbers on Covid cases to come down. Taking the perfectly healthy people with positive tests off the score sheet will help.

  2. But if they stop doing these tests on people…how will they know who to sell the bridges to?

Sometimes, I imagine a comedy sketch with two devils (mix C.S.Lewis’s Screwtape and Rik Myall characters) competing with each other:
Ha! Bet you can’t get the whole population to walk around in face-nappies!
How Much? Right then, you’re on!

    • I’m going to hedge a bet here too. My crystal ball says that life will, in general, return to normal. People will go out and mix, then in a couple of months a new variant gets found and all the restrictions come back, just in time before the emergency powers expire.

It also says that Boris has been a naughty boy so he has to step lightly right now, but just you wait…

  3. I think the manic testing has played an important part in furthering this fiasco. Apart from boosting the number of ‘infections’ by adding vast numbers of people who weren’t ill it has helped to make people fearful and compliant. Of course it’s also urinated oceans of taxpayers’ money up the wall, one of the very few things this government seems to be good at.

I have taken two tests which were required in order to be allowed to visit my mother in law in her care home. Did this keep Covid out of the home? Of course not.

  4. You cannot control an airborne virus by locking people up. Even if you create a positive pressure in the building people will still continue to breathe. Honk Kong is currently proving this with a huge lockdown doing bugger all re infection incidence.
