Really?

Sometimes

Russia will no longer be allowed to participate in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, the European Broadcasting Union has said.

The EBU, which produces the event, said Russia’s inclusion could bring the competition into disrepute “in light of the unprecedented crisis in Ukraine”.

Quite apart from the sense of priorities, does the Eurovision contest have a reputation to bring into disrepute?

  1. Well it does have a reputation for being bizarre and rather camp. I’m sure that Mr. Putin will be most put out about this.

    • No. We’ve got enough illegal immigrants as it is. Bog off.

Besides, why invade? The UK and Ireland have a CTA (Common Travel Area) agreement which means UK passport holders can stay without limit and similarly Irish passport holders can live and work in the UK.

  2. Eurovision may be a joke here, but in a lot of European countries it’s a big deal.
I always find it amusing that Mrs Drakon loves to sit and watch it. Makes it a big event. Some of her friends round or on WhatsApp/Skype/zoom whatever.

For some reason though, she’s always surprised when we get nil points.
Doesn’t seem to realise it’s because everyone hates us, even though I told her on numerous occasions.

  3. I wish they’d ban UK too, but they won’t as we via BBC pay them ~£100 million pa. This bribe – didn’t Blair make them illegal? – ensures UK is always in the final. No pesky qualifying rounds.

Yep, Mrs Pcar says it’s a big event in Sweden and didn’t know voting was political – I knew from about age 10
