If you want evidence that the force is out of touch with the public, this is it. I occasionally get into discussions with people about this claptrap and the usual response is at best, bemusement. One student yesterday summed it up as ‘bollocks’ when we were talking about the stuff about this coming out of Bristol University. As something of a political geek, I’m up on this nonsense, but out there in the real world, people are broadly unaware and can’t quite believe it when they hear it. They do not accept that there are multiple genders. There are two – there are men and women, homo sapiens being a sexually dimorphic species, so there are two sexes and gender is merely the use of language evolved to describe this. There are not multiple genders and no one cares about an individual’s delusions. So I expect the police to concentrate on policing. A simple ‘sir’ or ‘madam’ will do just fine.
I support use of preferred pronouns- and mine is ‘Lord High Poobah, Master of the Universe’ officer.

Are bikers a representative sample though? They are sort of rebels by nature. Having said that, I think that you are right, ordinary people aren’t even aware that this nonsense is going on. They would look at you with a baffled expression if you tried to explain it to them.

A lot of farm equipment has self sealing quick release hydraulic couplings on it. They have only two genders and are designed so that you can’t get them mixed up.

Mermaids needs closing down, frankly. It’s an objectively evil organisation. And, no, this is not what the police are for. Given that the toilets are likely to be on private property, my gaff, my rules applies. And no, blokes should not be going into the female toilets. Many places now have unisex disabled toilets, they can use those.
Personally I believe that because Mermaids is without a doubt engaged in encouraging children to embark on courses of action tht will not be for the child’s benefit, then it should be treated by decent people with the same level of opprobrium as groups like PIE were and are treated.
Mermaids is encouraging kids to be mutilated and chemically warped with hormones and on that matter I agree with you that this is an objectively evil organisation. f

The Labour Party in the seventies did not run PIE per se but some of those, like Harman, who with the benefit of hindsight, should have had a more condemnatory attitude towards PIE, did become big noises in the Labour Party.
PIE and its supporters took advantage of wht was in the seventies a period of sexual liberation for women and gays by painting their movement as just another personal libration group along similar lines. That they were not and were promoting an activity that is inherently exploitative should have been recognised and PIE not allowed to infiltrate groups like the National Council for Civil Liberties.
Whether the NCCL (now Liberty) deliberately and with malice included PIE or whether PIE were included because the NCCL staff were naive is something for debate but it’s interesting to note that a lot of the objections to PIE being included in the NCCL’s umbrella came not from within the NCCL itself but from the much maligned tabloid press who exposed much of the goings on at the time regarding PIE and the NCCL.
Even after the NCCL finally got rid of PIE and its supporters from the NCCL PIE activists continued. I recall being a court reporter in the early eighties covering one of the PIE trials where some of the PIEmen were tried for postal act offences as that was all they could be got on at the time. To be quite frank the PIEmen I saw in the dock were some of the most morally bankrupt defendants I’d ever seen as what they were promoting had no excuse or reason. At that time I saw some murderers who had more functioning moral compasses than the PIEmen, which is saying something.
I believe that the public mood is changing regarding the more extreme bits of the trans cult. People who would have readily accepted transsexuality when the numbers of transsexuals was tiny and the impact of them equally small have changed their minds now that the extremists have gained control of the trans movement and are hell bent on indoctrinating and mutilating children into their cult.
Groups like Mermaids should be looked at with the same degree of moral opprobrium as we would view groups like PIE. I believe that in the future Mermaids and entities like them will be looked at with the same sort of horror and disgust as many today view Eugenicists. As I said back in 2017 (link below) there may come a time when we view the mass transing of people and the use of transition as a first rather than last resort for those with gender identity issues in a similar way and with a similar sense of horror as we today view the routine use of lobotomies for mental conditions.
