Justin Welby decides to comment upon Prince Andrew.
The Archbishop of Canterbury has suggested shamed Prince Andrew should be forgiven for the sex abuse scandal – saying the Duke is “seeking to make amends and I think that’s a very good thing”.
In an interview with ITV tonight, Most Rev Justin Welby suggested “we all have to step back a bit” from the case which plunged the monarchy into one of its worst-ever crises.
In an astonishing intervention following the Duke of York’s disgrace, the holy man said it was a “good thing” Andrew was “seeking to make amends”.
Okay, forgiveness is divine and all that. I’m all for a bit of forgiveness. However, having conservative views is so far beyond the pale that being cast out is forever, it seems. Some things are unforgivable.
Welby probably wonders where his congregations went . . .

One monarchies “worst ever crises?”
I’m sure Charles I would beg to differ
Ah, but the real crisis of Charles III has yet to begin.
Edward II might, too. Pretty sure that red hot poker was a crisis.
Perhaps it was coincidence that both the Archbishop of Canterbury and Prince Andrew missed the Jubilee service ‘having tested positive for Covid’. Or is there something we should be told about those two oddballs? Just askin’. . . . . .
