I’m Missing Something

I’ve never understood this phenomenon.

As the countdown begins to the Coronation on Saturday, royal “superfans” have already started to set up camp on Pall Mall as they look forward to the “icing of the cake” of King Charles’s long career.

Stationed a stone’s throw from Buckingham Palace, the royalists are draped in Union Flags as they eagerly await the crowning of their new monarch.

Okay, I suppose that not really being a monarchist means that I wouldn’t expect to, but it’s not just this, it’s the daft twats who camp out to buy the lates iPhone or whatever. Nope, I just don’t get it.

As for this particular instance, I can sort of get that it is a one off occasion, but for me, Charles is just a placeholder who is preventing the seat being taken by a Blair or Cameron in the new republic. That’s the only job that I really want him to do. Drive around and wave a bit and keep those buggers out. But watch? Nope, I would rather have a nice little nap.

That said if some Just Stop Oil bullies do get shot, I’ll be annoyed at missing the entertainment.

  1. Did you notice that the Just Stop Oil banners are made out of plastic? Effing idiots.

  2. I suppose that it would be a boring old world if we all liked the same stuff. The i phone thing is particularly baffling to me. Adults who would fail the marshmallow test, wait just a couple of days and you can just walk in and buy one. I suppose that there is a possibility that they will sell out and you would have to wait a couple of weeks, presumably that would be unbearable.

  3. It was Daniel O’Donnell concerts when I was a kid. Used to see them all camped in a row for the following days concert, when we were out on the piss

  4. I did think of going up but living in the west country I could get up the night before but not get home at the end of it, I’m sure trains might do it but I’m not near a train station. Staying up through the night can be fun, did it when Charlie married Diana, but after it’s all over with you’d be too vulnerable.
Decided to watch it with my Dad in comfort. Can’t see Charles making a jubilee so it’s a one off. Love all the pomp and ceremony. Just seeing USA every few years campaigning for new presidents makes you realise a monarch is much more stable and cost effective.
One thing Charles will do is cut back on needless expenses, true he’ll always spend more than the likes of us, but if you’re not a working royal better watch out, he’s not going to sub them.
Oh and yes I’ve a union jack dress and bunting out. I’m having to work a night shift after so will celebrate with fish and chips only!

    • I’ll be watching for the thing we do better than any other country – the pomp and circumstance, the pageantry, etc.

  5. I lost interest when the Windsors went into politics. If they were on fire I wouldn’t piss on them. I’ll cook some lasagna, have a walk and do a few sudokus instead.
If I’m lucky the next day I’ll hear about some kind of an incident, but that’s unlikely since the security in London apparently is very tight.

  6. “Charles is just a placeholder who is preventing the seat being taken by a Blair or Cameron in the new republic”

That’s the only real function of the monarchy and its ABSOLUTELY vital, particularly now.

He may be a figurehead, he may have little or no actual power, but constitutionally, he is the head of state, not some degenerate Wansee whore. He may be a fully fledged fruit loop, but so what? Unfortunately it looks like he will not be able to resist meddling in politics. THAT cannot be tolerated (everything else can).

If the monarchy is to be abolished, let it be the result of a serious debate between serious people (I can’t believe I just said that, but as long as he – or anybody else – is on the throne, the possibility – however remote – still exists). If the monarchy falls because of his inability to keep his snout out of politics (something Liz understood perfectly. I know a few dedicated republicans who – however grudgingly – acknowledge this). Well, there would be no hell that would be bad enough for him.

Peter Hitchens pointed out the this country is the only one that has a proper coronation. I have to disagree though, as he forgets the coronation of the elected US king (never forget that’s what he is). The US constitution has many admirers (of which I am one), but look at what they have today. After a fraudulent election (and looks like there’ll be another one next year), the vegetable in chief – with monarchical powers – is being led by the colostomy bag by fuck knows who.

If they can do that to the well thought out framework of Jefferson, Madison, Franklin I shudder to think (I hope I’m not still around to find out) what they would replace jug ears with.

I’m a monarchist to my boots!

  7. From the Daily Mash:

THE public has advised the Royal family that with four days still to go until the Coronation they still have time to pick someone more suitable.

Britain has denied having a particular candidate in mind, but would ideally choose someone with close family connections who is a tireless worker for charity and reminds them of the late Queen.

Bill McKay of Scarborough said: “I’m not suggesting we think entirely out of the box and go for, like, Jayne Torvill. We stick with a Windsor.

“But what if the Queen had a direct descendant, say a daughter, who had a history of genuine achievement like winning medals at equestrian events? That’d count for a lot.

“If it was someone who’d got divorced without airing their dirty laundry all over the press, so much the better. Rather than, just to pick a random example from the ether, a tampon wannabe.

  8. The question that I really want answered by these campers is what do they do about loos?

    • London IS a toilet anyway, so I imagine they just let loose in Hyde Park and the gutters of the Mall.

  9. They have portaloos all over the place, hopefully already up and working!
Yes Anne is good example of how a royal should be. Unfortunately she was born when boys inherited first so remove Charlie and you have Andrew and Edward and all their children before her. Shame, she would have made a really good Queen.

  10. I’m not a monarchist but I did like Royalty until Jug Ears started into politics. The Queen ran ‘The Firm’ well. But like many institutions the inheritors are woke and screw it up. The highlight of his career will be his State Funeral imo. William seems so far to have kept out of politics so I’d hate to see them shut down just because of Jug Ears, hopefully, short tenure.

    • But William has not kept out of politics. Climate and colonialism. Pox on him too.
