Virtual Reality

As has been mentioned in the comments here, the police are investigating a virtual rape.

Police are investigating the first case of rape in the metaverse after a child was “sexually attacked” in a virtual reality video game.

It is said a gang of men raped the avatar of a girl aged under 16 during a video game. The victim wasn’t physically injured but is said to have suffered the same psychological and emotional trauma as someone who has been raped in the “real world”.

Okay, so what crime has been committed here? Rape involves forced penetration. Did that happen? I presume not. So, again, what crime, exactly, has been committed?

Police leaders are now calling for legislation to tackle a wave of sexual offending in such a sphere, saying officers’ tactics must evolve to stop perverts using new technology to exploit children. However, the landmark case has prompted questions about whether police should be pursuing virtual offences.

Given their piss poor attempts at solving real crimes in the real world, those asking such questions have a point. But as usual, plod wants more power. The answer, as always, should be ‘no.’

  1. What utter nonsense.

New just in: An appeal for police assistance from the Galactic Council of Space Invaders has been received today. A Met spokesthing said “We share the shock and horror of the Galactic Council concerning the large increase in online hate against Space Invaders in general, and against the little green ones in particular. Online discrimination has no place in our society and the softest measures will be taken, regardless of the law, in order to increase our media presence and pensions.” #standwithalphacentauri, #greenlivesmatter

  2. First world problems for the metropolitan set. Everyone else gets on with grinding out a life. Of course, the plebs should take notice because their country is being undermined from within. But, never mind, Strictly is on the TV!

  3. Hmm. Lots of people get ‘killed’ in online games but there are no police investigations. It must be unpleasant to be sexually attacked but how is this any different?

    • Well, exactly. Plod would be overwhelmed with all those murders, yet this is in some way different? The ‘victim’ can always remove their headset and the ‘assault’ is over, just like that.

      • Just wait the plod arrive in virtual reality… plod blown away by gangs wielding assault rifles, RPGs, tanks, etc.

  4. I smell bullshit. Faceache are supposed to have programmed male avatars that have penises??? And female ones that have vaginas???

  5. As an actual case in a court of law this would be laughable, but that really isn’t the point.

The police want to be able to threaten those online who are “off messsage” with threats of “legal action” which, if the target were to say fuck you and fight back, would be withdrawn.

But the process is the punishment and that the police want to be further empowered to be contemptible, cowardly and amoral bullies tells you all you need to know about them.

    • The problem Mark is that we have got to a point in our societal “development” that this shit could actually fly in a court of law*

*Law, defined by whichever unelected millionaire is in power at the moment, usually based on whatever is trending on twitter at any given time.

      • That’s what’s so damned depressing!

It would not be an actual crime, so a determined victim who stood their ground would very likely win any legal case, but it would cost and the spiteful “authorities” – able to plunder the public purse without limit – could conduct lawfare against the selected target, aided and abetted by the soshul meeja sewer pretty well indefinitely.

The genuinely law abiding and tolerant are still the majority, but for how much longer?

        • I regard myself as law-abiding, but break the “law” numerous times a day. I drive at a speed conducive to the road and conditions (not 20), I watch whatever tv programme I fancy without a ticket, I call people faggots, queers and no-marks, as they call me the same, I live by the golden rule: Do unto others as you would the do unto you.

          It’s really not difficult.

  6. I can only assume that this will be investigated in the ‘metaverse’ and any punishment given out, will also only be digital?
If the girl can get the same trauma as an actual rape, from a digital one, the perps can receive the same punishment digitally, as being put in actual prison

    • EXACTLY! My first reaction when I saw the story was why the f**k didn’t she just take the damned headset off?? It’s not like reality where your physical body can be overpowered and force to endure something. It’s electrons on a screen. Remove the screen and shut off the electrons. Done. It doesn’t matter if the avatars have penises or not. The key word is “avatar”. Ye gods what is wrong with people?!
