A woman has revealed she was ‘virtually gang raped’ by four male avatars in Meta‘s Horizon Worlds – and she said the trauma is similar to a real-world assault.
No, it wasn’t. Rape is a physical assault involving forced penetration. Avatars are not real. The metaverse is not real. This woman could have stopped this immediately by just disconnecting. A real rape victim cannot escape so readily. This bullshit trivialises sexual assault.
Hopefully she will contact the authorities and try to file a report. I would love to be able to listen in on that conversation.
But the police are already investigating a virtual rape in the metaverse.
What is more worrying is that this woman is a psychotherapist dealing with people with mental illnesses.
Perhaps she’s caught one of her patients?
