This is True

Can’t argue with the logic.

Furious residents have slammed a council’s order to remove an ‘inappropriate’ Union flag mural from the side of an award-winning fish and chip shop.

Chris Kanizi, 65, who owns Golden Chippy, in Greenwich, south-east London, has been told to paint over the mural of the humanoid fish, which is adored by tourists.

The Cyprus-born chef, who has been running Golden Chippy for 20 years and lives two doors down, said tourists have been attracted to the area because of the mural, which was deemed ‘inappropriate’ according to the Telegraph.

Greenwich council said they received a number of complaints about the mural which they deemed to be  an ‘unauthorised advert’.

However, locals have hit back at the council’s order and questioned why they don’t take down some of the graffiti in the area instead of the ‘fantastic’ mural, which features the phrase ‘A Great British Meal’.

One local woman said the council ‘wouldn’t complain’ if it was a Banksy and questioned why other artists can’t ‘lighten up the streets’.

Of course the council is indulging in double standards. It’s what they do. Of course they deem the union flag inappropriate, it’s what they are. And damned right if that massive arse Wanksy had daubed one of his tedious, puerile stencils across the wall, the council would have been rushing to preserve it for posterity.

Of course they have principles. If you don’t like these ones, they have others.

  1. Let’s face it, if the mural didn’t feature the Union Flag, the flag of our nation, they wouldn’t have had a problem with. But because some limp wristed leftwaffe types decided it was offensive to them, it has to go. I really hope My Kanizi wins this fight, because I am sick of foreigners and traitors within our own nation doing shit like this. That is our flag. It is a symbol of our nation, our people, our values, our pride and our culture. And if that offends you, then you are in the wrong country.

  2. I would demand to see all the “complaints” if they actually exist. Methinks the Councillors are simply saying that they got many complaints and are (reluctantly) taking action.

And if you believe that …

  3. I would love to see who has complained. If any complaints actually exist, they will likely be from council staff themselves, not the public

  4. So a Greek Cypriot depicts a Union Jack on his wall. And what, is it being suggested that he is encouraging dark nationalist feelings? Like Constable did with The Haywain? (See the latest from the The Fitzwilliam Museum Cambridge) A Greek Cypriot? I am not sure I understand the local council’s thinking (if any).
