Okay, I’m not counting my chickens just yet, but…
Electric vehicles (EVs) have been touted as an environmentally-friendly solution to the climate crisis, giving passengers a smooth, emissions-free ride.
But it seems the electric revolution – deemed essential to curb carbon emissions – is running out of road.
MailOnline’s graph reveals that global EV sales have slumped in recent months for three top manufacturers, as the public struggles to fall in love with the technology.
Despite growing steam long-term, Elon Musk‘s Tesla saw quarterly EV sales fall from a peak of 484,500 in Q4 2023 to just 386,800 in the first quarter of 2024.
Meanwhile, Chinese car manufacturer BYD – the world’s largest seller of electric vehicles – saw global EV sales crash earlier this year.
Reality bites. Governments can make up whatever targets and deadlines they like, but the market is king. Hopefully collapse is right.
“Electric vehicles (EVs) have been touted as…”
“An environmentally-friendly”
Nope electricity doesn’t grow on trees and the batteries are terrible for the environment.
“Solution to the climate crisis.”
There isn’t a crisis and, even if there was, electric cars wouldn’t help.
“Giving passengers a smooth.”
I’ll grant that one.
“Emissions-free ride.”
Electricity doesn’t grow on trees, unless we are shovelling entire forests into the furnaces at Drax that is. Still not emissions free.
The ignorance is profound.
Even if all electricity was from non-fossil fuels, they still wouldn’t be emissions free::
This chapter estimates the non-exhaust PM emission factors from electric vehicles and compares these factors with those of internal combustion engine vehicles. Assuming lightweight EVs (i.e. with battery packs enabling a driving range of about 100 miles), the report finds that EVs emit an estimated 11-13% less non-exhaust PM2.5 and 18-19% less PM10 than ICEVs. Assuming that EV models are heavier (with battery packs enabling a driving range of 300 miles or higher), however, the report finds that they reduce PM10 by only 4-7% and increase PM2.5 by 3-8% relative to conventional vehicles. Additional simulations indicate that the uptake of electric vehicles will lead to very marginal decreases in total PM emissions from road traffic in future years. In scenarios where electric vehicles comprise 4% and 8% of the vehicle stock in 2030, their penetration reduces PM emissions by 0.3%-0.8% relative to current levels.

I wonder what will have to happen for the Top Men and Women who dictate how we live our lives to realize that this scam is collapsing. Much like a Ponzi scheme which eventually gets too top heavy and has nowhere else to go.
“Hello? 77 Brigade HQ? Could I speak to the commanding officer please?”
This clearly isn’t sustainable:

Which motor company is going to be the first to issue an ultimatum to their government: “Either you scrap the EV mandate, or we close down our operations entirely, and put tens of thousands out of work”
They should have shown solidarity and all done that right at the beginning but there were subsidies to be farmed.
When you do count those chickens, don’t forget to register them with the Government…
Ha ha, well done.
