And This is Why…

The paedogeddon panic that led to the CRB checks has created a monster –  worse than the one it was trying to deal with. As anyone who stopped to think for a nanosecond would realise, the CRB check is fatally flawed and protects no one from anything.

A primary school caretaker who admitted possessing indecent images of children was vetted before getting the job, the head teacher concerned has said.

Well, duh! Of course he was okay when he was vetted. He hadn’t been caught yet…

  1. Primary school caretaker here has 9 NINE CERTIFICATES.

    One for school
    One for school bus driving
    One for road crossing duties
One for working at other school
    …………
    ………………….TRUE

  2. Not only that, but it’s stopping people from getting jobs because they have criminal records for fairly minor, unrelated matters from decades ago. A fortysomething school governor might well be rejected because he took drugs in his youth or shoplifted, for instance. It’s a system of eternal punishment.

  3. Yes, but who will have the guts to show that the sytatem, like the Stasi is unsustainable, because of the costs, never mind anything else ….
    ??

  4. Something must be done; this is something; therefore we must do it.

That’s about how CRB checks came about, and how useful they are.

Except for their negative effect, of course, in encouraging people to understand that they can’t do ANYTHING on their own initiative, but must always tick the State’s boxes.

    • But of course:- conditioned unthinking acceptance of, and compliance with, the edicts of the-powers-that-be is the sole purpose of petty regulation.

  5. You do realise what the next step is here? CRB is passive vetting. You look through the criminal and intelligence records on PND and if nothing is found the subject passes. The next step is positive vetting. There will be someone somewhere, probably a for-profit business, thinking up proposals that the CRB check must interrogate a subject’s computer, search his house, speak to his friends and workmates.
