The Bodies Aren’t Even Cold

Nor is the blood dry on the streets of Paris than the vermin at the centre of the state are planning their next assault on our liberties.

If he wins the election, Mr Cameron said he would increase the authorities’ power to access both the details of communications and their content.

Mr Cameron said the recent attacks in Paris showed the need for such a move.

He was “comfortable” it was appropriate in a “modern liberal democracy”.

There is so much that is so wrong with this, it is difficult to know whereto start. In a liberal democracy we do not monitor the communications of law-abiding citizens. The security services have all the power – and much more – that they need to catch the bad guys. After all, when these atrocities occur, they already have these people on their radar. There are sufficient powers that enable the security services to engage in targeted monitoring of such people and doing so does not intrude upon our civil liberties.

That, however, is not what this is about. Ask yourself this; when was the last time a criminal or terrorist overthrew a government? Who, generally does? Yup – us, the people, for we are legion and they are few. Given enough provocation, the people can mass to such an extent that they remove governments. Not especially likely in our statist loving society, but possible all the same. And those in power want to remain so. So, spying on us make sense to the paranoid control freaks in government. Going after known bad guys doesn’t justify more snooping. It never did.

So, yes, the attacks simply gave these people exactly what they wanted – an excuse to exercise more power over us. Today a talking head on the BBC (where else?) posed the question just how much liberty should we trade for security. Have we learned nothing? Do we ever learn anything? The answer is as it was always; “none”.

Today, the Jihadists won. Today, the statist bastards won. And we lost. Again.

  1. The reason the Jihadists are here in the first place is because the likes of Cameron and his erstwhile dad let them in and encouraged them to behave normally, and that’s exactly what they did.

Course it didn’t help by letting the sods in and then bomb the shit out of their brothers, but then career politicians never did have much common sense going for them.

  2. LR,

I posted much the same sort of thing on my blog today, but from the point of view that the politico’s were at the heart of the problem and effectively caused the Paris massacre.

  4. I read that the French spooks were monitoring these parasites but a few weeks ago stopped doing so because they were “low-risk”. Will we get to know who made that decision? No chance. We’ll get the screws tightened on the rest of us because politicos like few things better than leaning on the scruff.
