Sigh…

The fallout from the results of the General Election has had one surprising effect: every major political party in the UK, except the Conservatives, is now led by a woman.

Harriet Harman (Labour), Nicola Sturgeon (SNP), Leanne Wood (Plaid Cymru), Natalie Bennett (Green), Suzanne Evans (Ukip) and Sal Brinton (Liberal Democrats) are presently leading their respective parties.

Only the Conservatives, having squeaked a tiny majority, remain with the 48-year-old David Cameron.

Presumably, this silly piece is supposed to paint the Tories as teh patriarchy and all that. So, which party had a female leader who led them to three successive election victories? Hmmm?

  1. Jolly good news! If we can just keep all the other run by women, then Cameron would romp into a 3rd term.

Having said that (not seriously!), I’d back Theresa May as the next Tory leader.

Great news about Balls wasn’t it? Even the Labour voters weren’t prepared to risk him running the economy.

  2. I have to post here a comment – not one of my own, sadly, but so good that I kept it for posterity – left on t’Internet some years ago in response to some article bemoaning the sad state of politics and politicians today. It’s as valid now as it was then – maybe even more so in view of the observation you highlight here, LR. The comment reads:

“I blame the baleful influence of women in parliament, government bureaucracies and education. These days, the state actually behaves like a silly, unpleasant female – pompous, petty, jealous, obsessed with its stupid appearance, totally without a sense proportion, prone to nagging, cliquishness and spying on the neighbours, and not quite comprehending the details of how anything is supposed to work, e.g. a viable human society. No doubt they’ll be in floods of tears when it all backfires, and lock themselves in the bathroom.”

It’s a beaut, isn’t it? With apologies to the original author, whose name I failed to keep along with the comment itself.

We have a histrionic five years ahead, I fear! (And I can say that about wimmin, because I is one!!)
