Aldi has changed the name of one of its paint colours after a sexual assault victim said it made her choke.
“Rape yellow” paint caused an Aldi woman to become “furious and upset” when she saw it in a store in Coventry.
As I lift my jaw back from my chest, my mind is wondering how she feels when taking a drive through the English countryside and is presented with a vista of yellow rape…
“I looked at the paint and thought it can’t possibly say that, you have got to be kidding me, there’s no way they would sell that. I started choking. I got straight out of there. I was furious and upset.
“I thought maybe I was being sensitive because of my situation, but I sent pictures to my friends and they were all shocked by it. They couldn’t believe what I was saying.”
Then they are equally idiotic.
Aldi, instead of showing some balls and pointing out that rape is a noun in this case – Brassica napus – caved, thereby paving the way for other trivial PC complaints. And so it goes on…
Although the word has two entirely different meanings one of the meanings is a violent assault, so I would expect a rape victim to be upset by it. Had I been in charge of paint colour names, I would have called it something else. I don’t think that you have to be ignorant of the other meaning of the word to find it a little distasteful.
Sorry, but I don’t find it remotely distasteful. The two are entirely different in meaning and like many English words the same spelling is just that. Any sympathy for someone who has suffered sexual assault does not mean that we should go around pussyfooting and mollycoddling. The use of the word was legitimate.
So, tranlated, Aldi decides to change the labelling of it’s paint because of one upset moron.
How sad that society has come to this.
Her head will probably explode when she goes down the oils aisle and sees Rapeseed oil.
They are going to rename that ‘non-consensual intercourse oil’.
I think that forced unnatural carnal knowledge oil would have a better acronym.
