What should the parties address in their general election manifestos? In this Viewsnight, the former head of the Downing Street policy unit under David Cameron, Camilla Cavendish, argues that we can’t afford decent social care unless we tax either the living or the dead.
What is it with these arseholes? We pay around 50% of our wealth to the state. The state then pisses it up the wall on frippery and vanity projects. It never occurs to them to do the obvious; slash the state and its spending. Social care would be a drop in the ocean that we could afford with impunity. We pay too much tax. The very idea of the state stealing more from us is criminal.
Idiots!
Damn right. A top earner pays around 53% income tax I think when you factor in national insurance which also is an income tax. This is outrageous.
Let us not forget that after our top earner has had the better part of his earnings taken from him, from what is left he then gets taxed on everything he buys. If he drives a car (or two), drinks and smokes, then the amount he pays in tax and duty takes a fair chunk of that 47% the government graciously allows him to keep. And he is being charged 20% VAT on just about everything else apart from food. Then of course there are local council taxes to pay. I wonder how much of that ‘after tax’ 47% goes to the taxman by the time it all shakes out?
The total tax take from an individual should never exceed 49%. It is simply immoral take half of what a person earns in tax. People should be able to total all the tax of every kind they pay in a year, including council tax and VAT and receive a rebate of everything over 49% of what they have earnt in that year.
It should be considerably less than that. No one should pay more than 20% and that’s fucking robbery.
We pay taxes all our lives. Why should we pay again for the privilege of dying?
