A social media mob descended upon a British mother, “naming and shaming” her for missing the weekly “clap for carers” event meant to show solidarity with National Health Service (NHS) workers during the Chinese coronavirus pandemic.
The only thing that surprises me about this story is how long it’s taken to rear its ugly head. The NorKish behaviour over the past few weeks has left me cringing. However, I have noticed a decline. Last Thursday, I could only see about three lots of neighbours out clapping. The rest stayed firmly indoors, so I am unlikely to be reported to the Stasi for thoughtcrime…

Right. So despite having a universal healthcare system that we all pay for (through the nose) via our taxes we are now dependent upon soviet style clapping if we want treatment…

I’ve just seen an effing TV ad for an effing NHS whip round. Yes you paid for it already via eye watering rates of tax but hey, would you mind getting your hand down and paying again? And you all want a round of applause and thank you cards just for doing your job? I’m getting slightly cross now.

Clapping seals: a first here on 23 April. I’m ashamed to say it was Mr & Mrs Next Door – one clapping, one banging pot. Frequent pauses and silence – nobody joined them – they stopped before TV did. Hope they slunk back inside in embarrassment
