Professor Pants Down

I do enjoy a bit of schadenfreude with my breakfast.

Professor Neil Ferguson was branded an ‘arrogant hypocrite’ today for catastrophically ‘undermining’ the government’s position by flouting the strict coronavirus social distancing rules he helped draw up to have secret trysts with his married lover.

The shamed scientist, nicknamed ‘Professor Lockdown’ because he convinced Boris Johnson to order millions to stay at home, has sensationally quit his Government role on the influential SAGE committee – but his employer Imperial College London is standing by him.

Oh, how the mighty fall. In this case rather more quickly than expected. This is the charlatan who has been advising the government to completely trash our economy on the basis of computer games modelling.

Professor Ferguson, 51, asked his mistress Antonia Staats, 38, to travel across London to his home at least twice despite lecturing 66million in Britain on the need to stay apart to stop the spread of the killer virus. The scandal broke last night and critics have said he ‘undermined the government’s lockdown message’ on one of the darkest days of the pandemic when the ONS said Britain’s death toll climbed to 32,375 people – the highest in Europe.

Oh dear, how sad, never mind. As is usual with these poltroons, one rule for the proles and another for them. The arrogance is staggering in its magnitude.

In a resignation statement last night, the academic, who is married with a son but is believed to be separated from his wife, admitted he had ‘made an error of judgement’ but claimed he thought he was ‘immune’ to the illness – despite leading scientists and the World Health Organisation saying there is still not enough evidence recovering from Covid-19 can protect you from reinfection.

No, it wasn’t an error of judgement, it was hubris. That hubris has resulted in a well deserved downfall. Goodbye, good riddance and don’t let the door hit you on the arse as you go, you vile mountebank.

  1. And hopefully he’ll be getting his collar felt. Nah, what am I thinking, that only happens to the little people.

  2. Nailed it there. Amazing how many people are trying to make excuses for it. It’s not the act itself, it’s the jawdropping hypocrisy.

    • Goes with the territory. The hubris that makes him think that he is better than the rest of us. After all, he’s a government “expert” despite having a catalogue of failures to his name.

  3. He is currently getting a good kicking from the proles on the Jeremy Vine show and Jeremy took the opportunity to remind us of Fergies failures on SARS, swine flu, mad cow disease and the rest.

  4. Ironic that what caught him out (or in) was his Staats.
What is the probability of that?
    Something else he predicted wrongly.

  5. I don’t think his escapades have made much difference to where he finds himself now. I’ve just read a review of one version of his modelling code, and I suspect he would have been out of post in a few weeks, anyway. It is not pretty reading.

    • @Kurt

In March he told Sunday Telegraph, on Sat, he would release his model “Next Week” for public scrutiny

He lied and still refuses to release full model code to Gov or public.

Hugely irresponsible & asinine of Govs to accept his results at face value, despite his previous massively failed models. Even more so given the Lockdown’s huge cost to UK: £2.4 Billion per day

  6. Prof Neil Ferguson is Left charlatan, liar and absolute cnut

    Delers spot on
    – “Do not leave your home unless you absolutely HAVE to…
    – shag a married Soros-backed left-wing anti-capitalist climate activist”
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/05/06/would-buy-a-used-computer-model-from-bonking-boffin-neil-ferguson/

Even more suspect when the lady he was secretly seeing happened to be a prominent climate campaigner with no interest whatsoever in shutting down the economy of course

“Conservative MP David Davis said that “a bigger issue than Professor Ferguson’s private life is the accuracy of his model. When applied to the Swedish policy, it forecast 40,000 deaths by now, over 15 times the reality.”
“We need the whole model, its assumptions and working in the public domain. We can no longer run our strategy on secret advice and potentially flawed calculations”

  7. If it was the slapper making her non-essential journey, surely it should be her who is fined/prosecuted? Meanwhile, why was this lying, hypocrite not sacked instead of being allowed to resign – would make interesting readings on his CV (not CV19) – and banned from any similar posts in the future.

  8. If he was doing this for the love of his country rather than his Staats, he might have followed the rules.
I am curious how much he has been paid for his advice and research – any ideas anyone?
Also, I suspect that he now realises that BoJo is not a cuddly buffoon!

  9. Probably just coincidence after so-called n.fergusons depraved behaviour the open air car park (80-100 spaces ?) of my local shopping precinct was just now 4/5 full when previously occupied by just a few solitary guilty-looking cars.

I’d say the lockdown is past it’s Best By date.

    • She’s developed a paunch and cankles since that photo, Jaded. Mind you, so have we all.

  10. I can’t help but feel the unofficial official government spokesman leaked this to a tame press baboon.
