And The Horse You Rode Into Town On

Oh, do go fuck yourself.

Refusing to wear a mask in public during the Covid-19 epidemic should become as socially unacceptable as drink-driving or not wearing a seatbelt, the president of the Royal Society has said.

At this point, I’ll quote Carl Vernon.

Yup. “Protests.” That great big second wave should have hit by now and it hasn’t.

Anyone with a basic understanding of biology, statistics and history – and I’m not talking the need for tertiary education here – will understand that we’ve been here before, that corona viruses are single strand RNA viruses that replicate and mutate in a way that double strand DNA organisms do not (hence the chase for a vaccine being a bit like looking for Will o’ the wisp). However, evolutionary pressure is always going to favour the less virulent variants.

History shows that there is a pattern to these outbreaks. So, yes, having been here before we know that these viruses tend to come along, do their damage then fizzle out. All the evidence so far is suggesting that this one is behaving according to type, despite the hysteria coming from the media and government.

Statistically, the chances of getting it are small and as it fizzles out, getting smaller. The kill rate is less than 1% and the majority of those who succumb are those who are already booking an appointment with the grim reaper.

We do not need to wear masks. Just because the continental types have fallen for it, is not an argument. If the French told us to collectively jump off the White Cliffs of Dover, would we do it? There is no rational reason for mass mask wearing. None whatsoever. Yet we get arseholes like this peddling the same hysteria day after day. This, despite the protests not triggering a second wave and despite the fact that many of us have returned to normal and are not wearing masks for some weeks now – not to mention shopping during the lock-down – and there hasn’t been a second wave.

Evidence and facts seem to pass these people by. Like much of what we are seeing these days, this is religious doctrine, not science, facts and evidence.

  1. There are quite a few parallels between the climate change alarmists and the Covid alarmists. Mostly the vast gulf between what the “science” is telling us and actual reality. I find it a little surprising that so many people still believe anything that they are told by the government or the media. Both are such a constant source of lies and misinformation that the obvious thing to do is to assume that they are either lying or misinformed.

    • And, of course, the evidence on the ground. When the narrative contradicts what I’m seeing, I go with what I’m seeing.

    • How about someone producing a Venn Diagram showing the overlap between Climate Change Sceptics, Euro Sceptics and Corono Sceptics? Probably look like this ‘0’.

      • Well, unscientific it may be, but having to endure the poisonous swamp that is Farcebook, that’s a pretty close correlation. That said, some of the Brexit types who are ex forces lean towards the authoritarianism inherent in the Covid response.

  2. The Royal Society president’s specialisms are biochemistry and biophysics. So were mine many years ago. I don’t feel qualified to offer epidemic control advice and I suspect that the Pres is no more qualified than me. Experts in one field are usually Mr Average in all others.

  3. Nick Ferrari on LBC this morning was inviting callers to opine about vaccination. After two callers said that they wouldn’t have the CV19 vaccine he cut the ‘discussion’ short saying that he mustn’t seem to be discouraging people from having it.
That stance goes a long way to explaining why there is no in depth discussion on MSM of the issues and why so many of us go to social media for information, despite the MSM’s warnings about the veracity of alternative sources of info.
It really does appear now that the MSM has been bought – very troubling that it has and the reasons for TPTB to do so.

    • Unfortunately, social media is full of gullible fools who believe the narrative despite the evidence that is before them. Three weeks ago, we had mass protests, yet no second wave. Not that I expected one. Now we have Matt Hancock saying that he is considering mandating face nappies, despite his own experts pointing out that the case for them is weak. Even so, we have the cretins on social media leaping up and down demanding such a law and accusing anyone who dares to disagree of being selfish or childish. Evidence, facts and critical thinking are dead and gone. We live in a world that has regressed to the religious beliefs of the middle ages. Burn the witch, hang the heretic!

  4. “Do their damage then fizzle out.”

BBC Radio 2 news reported today (from memory) ‘ONS report on a test of 36,000 people, 4 out of 5 were asymptomatic when tested as Positive (that’s the OMG scary bit, all those infected people out there with No Symptoms infecting ME !).
Of those 36,000, twelve were Positive (so how do they get 4 out of 5, was one person Fractionally Positive?)
This means 1/3 of 1% were infected so it’s all over folks get off your *rses and back to work. ( I made up that last bit).

Paid my first post covid visit to the cafe where I have had breakfast once or twice a week for over 30 years. It wasn’t the Covid Compliance Crazeee that bothered me but the lack of recognition.
Table service only, fine but the masked waitress leaned so far over to put my coffee down she spilt some of it and nearly toppled over.
The place is quite large and open plan so you can easily see the kitchen where the same waitress had her mask under her chin.
They asked me to register on a little docket, said I don’t know my mobile number but gave them an e-mail I’ve not used for years.
I’ll give it another go in a couple of weeks, see if they’ve calmed down a bit.
