There’s Predictable

When I read that Saira Khan had publicly renounced the religion of peace, I knew exactly what was to come. Well, didn’t we all?

Mirror columnist Saira Khan reveals her in her own words what has happened since she revealed a week ago that she is no longer a practising Muslim:

When I declared in my column last week that I was no longer a practising Muslim, I was expecting a backlash.

But what I was not expecting was extreme hate and death threats.

That’s some naivety right there. The penalty for apostasy in Islam is death. They make no secret of it. That’s why it’s so peaceful – you know like the BLM mostly peaceful burning, looting and murder. Islam peacefully kills apostates.

I have since received vitriol on a daily basis. I could understand it if I were selling drugs, abusing, grooming, being blasphemous or Islamaphobic, bullying, stealing, being violent or aggressive, but I’ve done none of those things – so why?

You need it explaining? Oh, okay. Islam is a barbaric, medieval belief system invented by a blood-thirsty warlord who used it to enrich himself and conquer the Arabian peninsular. It has not been through an enlightenment and the words of this so-called prophet are believed to be the literal word of God and apostasy is a capital offence – as is being Jewish and a non believer. This vile belief system has no place in the modern world, yet we pander to it repeatedly – we even have the made-up mental illness “Islamophobia” to silence critics. What has happened here was entirely predictable.

Then I realised that me coming out as a non-practising Muslim is not the reason for all the hate thrust upon me.

This deep-seated hate is because I made my declaration as a woman.

Whether we like it or not, some cultures, like the South Asian one from where my parents originate, is based on the patriarchy.

And many of those countries are populated by Muslims, so it’s easy to see why religion and culture are so entwined.

Well, yes, it is. However, the response would have been similar for a man – apostasy is treated the same regardless even though the observation about its medieval approach to women is a fair point.

Hundreds of comments – and 99% of them were made by men.

I am not remotely surprised. Indeed, I predicted as much when I first saw the article about coming out as non practising.

They know once women come together, their system would collapse and be seen for what it truly is – medieval.

Yup. The only surprise here is that Saira Khan has only just realised this.

  1. I initially misread and for a second thought that this was about Sadiq Khan, that would have put the cat among the pigeons!

Gotta love her naivety in thinking it’s all about patriarchy, am sure there are many Muslim women who’d look at her askance too…

  2. There is an Iraqi / Kuwaiti female singer who has recently announced her change of religion – she is now Jewish. That must really rile.

    • I covered that story of the ex Muslim turned Jew the other day. I wish her well and I only hope that she has or will find sanctuary in Israel as she’s in danger in any country where there is a Muslim majority or, sadly, in countries like the UK where there are far too many Islamic nutcases who would want to kill her for choosing Judaism.

It’s notable that she could not voice her view whilst inside Kuwait and had to wait until she was outside the country before she spoke.

I’ve encountered a few people who’ve chosen Judaism as a spiritual path, not a massive number as it’s a difficult one and takes a lot of study to get in,but it is only those who have converted from Islam to Judaism who seem to have to spend an awful lot of time looking over their shoulders.

If Saira Khan thought that by clarifying her situation it would make the nutcases go away then she was very naive to think that. Openly admitting that she’s rejected Islam has only made the hate she’s got from the nutjobs worse.
